KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 — Head of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) Youth wing Armada, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, today said it is unlikely that unity government parties can capture Kedah.

The Machang MP also expressed confidence that Perikatan Nasional (PN) will retain the state after the polls on August 12.

“People can dream and have aspirations. I think it is far-fetched for them because our data says otherwise.

“We might lose two or three seats, but the rest will be ours. We will win big, Insya-Allah, as was the case with the 15th general election,” he said.

Ahmad Fayhsal also claimed that MIC and MCA’s decision not to work hand in hand with Umno for the state elections would affect the unity government’s prospects at the ballot box.

“That is why I’m confident we will win Kedah,” he added.

On July 8, Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that he is confident the unity government can wrest Kedah from PN in the upcoming state election.

Speaking at the launch of the ‘Mega Madani Tour’, Anwar said the plan was to boost the economies of PN-governed states — Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu — if it were to win there.

Last Wednesday, the Election Commission (EC) set August 12 as voting day in elections that will be held simultaneously in six states, namely Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh also announced that nomination day was set for July 29, while early voting would take place on August 8.

Anything can happen. Look at the policies being rolled out by the Kedah government. Voters are afraid their livelihood going to be affected like what's happening in Kelantan, Trengganu etc. It is the economy. Understand?
