KUALA LUMPUR: The Malayan Commercial Banks Association (MCBA) expressed concern over a nationwide picketing by the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) following unsuccessful contract negotiations.

In a statement, MCBA executive director Looi Heong Meng urged NUBE to return to the negotiating table so that bank customers and the public would not be inconvenienced.

"MCBA has consistently demonstrated and remains committed to building a positive work environment for all employees.

"We firmly believe that the compensation and benefits for employees represented by NUBE remain competitive," he said.

Looi said open communication was essential to maintaining a harmonious work environment and achieving positive outcomes for all parties.

Yesterday, it was reported that NUBE would launch pickets nationwide.
