PUTRAJAYA: The government will re-evaluate the functions of the Community Communications Department (J-Kom), emphasising the necessity for coordination within the organisation.

Unity government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil has echoed Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi's call for an overhaul of the Community Communications Department (J-Kom).

This is in response to the department's revelation about an ongoing attempt by various parties, both in the opposition and government, to topple the current administration led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Puad emphasised that there was no legitimate reason for J-Kom to be preoccupied with the Dubai Move, which implies a scheme to destabilise the government, and dismissed the analysis as flawed.

"There are several things that need to be coordinated within the organisation to ensure that issues like this do not recur in the future," Fahmi said in a press conference in Putrajaya today.

As for the Dubai Move that has garnered attention, he said the matter extends beyond a mere statement.

The communications minister explained that it was a message that has been circulated in WhatsApp groups and was attributed to the J-Kom deputy director-general (community communications) Datuk Ismail Yusop

"I think because we are in the process of having internal alignment since J-Kom will be under the Communications Ministry, several functions and goals are being realigned.

"We will change the modus operandi; what has happened has happened, and I hope it will not happen again. I hope in the future the impact is net positive," he said when answering questions regarding disciplinary actions towards the J-Kom deputy DG.

Earlier, Ismail confirmed the emergence of a "Dubai Move", allegedly orchestrated by opposition leaders, including certain government representatives, with the aim of toppling the Madani government.

Ismail claimed that the move surfaced during the recent vacation of leaders from Perikatan Nasional, including government officials, in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed yesterday that he was informed about the "Dubai Move" as early as their flight to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

"We received intelligence reports, but we must maintain 'husnuzon' (positive assumptions) in situations like this."
