KUALA LUMPUR: The lack of supervision when it comes to standard operating procedures (SOPs) has led to the rising cases of police misconduct, says Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

He said while the police force had a complete set of SOPs, "what is important is the supervision and taking action (against black sheep) without any compromise.

"Doing this can prevent those with (bad) intentions to get involved in any such violations," he told reporters here on Tuesday (Jan 23).

He had been asked if changes would be made to the SOPs for recruitment in view of the rising number of "bad cop" cases of late.

Ayob Khan said there would be no compromise if anyone on the force was found to have violated SOPs or the law.

"It doesn't matter what the percentage (of rogue policemen) is, we will not compromise.

"To me, even if it is only a small number, (they) tarnish the image of the force as a whole," he said.

He added that such rogue policemen may have been upstanding at the beginning but got exposed to bad influences along the way.

"Maybe it was the surroundings or the challenges they faced that led them to being tempted," he added.
