KUALA LUMPUR: A Bersatu leader has chided Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari for raising the issue of vernacular schools during the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election campaign.

Bersatu's associate wing chairman Chong Fat Full said the Pas leader should have avoided discrediting the unity government by-election candidate Pang Sock Tao's education background.

"I too am from a vernacular school, so what's the issue? It is no different (from a national school0," Chong told Free Malaysia Today.

Yesterday, Fadhli had "aplogised" for raising questions on Pang's education background but he pointed out that it had also showed how Pang was educated in vernacular schools.

This cam after Pang put to rest a dispute raised by Fadhli when she shared her Ujuan Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination slips on her Facebook account.

Chong, however, also called out quarters who question Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Khairul Azhari Saut's educational background.

He said there was a need for all parties to practice maturity in politics, and focus more on improving the economy.

"We should stop these antics. The campaign should focus on government policies, and the direction of our economy and how we can better help the rakyat."

Chong said all quarters, including Fadhli should be proud of a person's execellent academic scores instead of only focusing on where the person was educated.

For the record, Pang's UPSR and PMR slip showed that she scored straight As for both examinations.

"We should respect those who still want to further their studies now and keep in mind that they may not have had the opportunity to do so before," he said.
