KUALA LUMPUR: Neither of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s two sons have declared their assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) despite the impending end-of-month deadline, says Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The MACC chief commissioner said his officers had received a request from the former prime minister’s sons, Mirzan Mahathir and Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, to further extend the deadline.

He said discussions on their request were underway.

“To my knowledge, our investigators are still deciding whether to provide the extension. I will leave it up to them to decide,” he said at a press conference yesterday.

According to reports, the deadline for Mokhzani and Mirzan to provide details of the assets to the MACC is May 25 and May 29, respectively.

In January, the two were handed the notice to declare their assets within 30 days by February, but they have since been granted multiple deadline extensions by the MACC.

The latest was on April 26, when Mokhzani and Mirzan were given a 30-day extension to declare their assets.

The MACC had called up the two brothers for questioning earlier this year.

It was reported that the commission had also directed Mokhzani and his eldest brother Mirzan to declare the assets they had accumulated since 1981, the year Dr Mahathir became prime minister for the first time.
