PENAMPANG: Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) is advocating for local parties to take the helm in governing Sabah, emphasising the importance of the "Sabah First" principle for the benefit of future generations.

During the party's four-yearly conference, PCS President Tan Sri Anifah Aman highlighted the need for unity and dedication to achieve success and avoid future disappointments. 

"Our unity and dedication today will determine our success and prevent future disappointments," he said following the party's four-yearly conference here today. 

PCS, now the eighth member of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), aligns with its ally Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku Sabah (STAR) on this stance.

Yesterday, STAR President Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan urged members to prioritise and vote for local parties to protect the rights of Sabahans, especially at the parliamentary level. 

Anifah, a former foreign minister, reiterated PCS's commitment to Sabah's political stability and the rights of its people. 

He expressed gratitude to Sabah Chief Minister and GRS Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for welcoming PCS into the coalition on May 22, despite skeptical media reports and external unease.

"Our entry into GRS is crucial for strengthening Sabah's political landscape with local parties at the helm," he said in a statement, emphasising that unity and cooperation among GRS component parties would enhance their collective voice and credibility.

Reflecting on PCS's journey since he took leadership in 2020, Anifah noted the party's resilience despite setbacks in state elections and the departure of several leaders. 

"PCS is committed to serving the people and fighting for Sabah's rights, particularly the full implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) as enshrined in the Federal Constitution," he added. 

Anifah stressed the importance of economic, educational, health, and infrastructure advancements, which he believes can only be achieved if Sabah's rights under the Federal Constitution are honoured. 

He also called for Sabah to receive 40 per cent of the Federal revenue collected in the state, which would significantly boost local development projects.

As PCS prepares for the 17th Sabah State Election in 2025, Anifah urged all party members to strengthen their machinery and support the GRS Coalition. 

He called on delegates to elect experienced and committed leaders during the conference to ensure the party's continued success and influence in Sabah's political landscape.
