KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor saw the highest number of Malaysians registering for the Central Database Hub (Padu), the Dewan Rakyat was told.

The Economy Ministry said Selangor saw 1.76 million individuals registering with Padu, including 178,045 civil servants, followed by Johor with 1.24 million individuals and Sarawak with 1.07 million individuals.

"Meanwhile, Perak recorded 999,195 updates, followed by Sabah (920,078), Kedah (816,037), Kelantan (673,869), Penang (582,369), Pahang (566,615), Kuala Lumpur (497,300), Terengganu (481,062), Negeri Sembilan (432,914), Melaka (320,530), Perlis (110,082),

Putrajaya (37,496) and Labuan (31,710)," the ministry said in a parliamentary written reply.

The ministry said this in response to Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin who enquired about the number of Padu registrations by state.

At the same time, the ministry added that Padu is currently in its second phase, which involves data analysis to determine household details, reasonable expenditure, as well as net disposable income.

"The Padu system will also be continuously updated, including integrating microdata from various ministries and agencies to ensure that all levels of government can utilise the Padu data repository to improve the planning of socioeconomic programmes, particularly in optimising resources, reducing leakages and enhancing the well-being of target groups," it said.

Meanwhile, the ministry added that the government is also examining past cases and mechanisms for targeted subsidy distribution.

"The targeting of diesel subsidies through Budi Madani is being implemented and also uses all relevant existing government databases."

In March, Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said about 10.8 million or 48.3 per cent of Malaysians aged 18 and above have registered for Padu.
