GUA MUSANG: Nenggiri will undergo a significant transformation within a year if the people give their mandate to Barisan Nasional in the by-election on Aug 17, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Umno president said the Nenggiri state seat needed to return to Barisan and that the development of the area would be well managed if the party won the by-election.

"Therefore, I urge the chairmen of each agency to play their role in ensuring a victory for Barisan.

"Various efforts have been made by all agencies, especially Kesedar (South Kelantan Development Authority) and Felda, which have significantly contributed to Kelantan's development,” he said during the launching of the Barisan machinery at the Umno Gua Musang division office on Monday (July 29).

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, added that the people should be grateful to the government for its extensive support in the state's development.

He said the Barisan machinery needed to work hard to secure votes for Barisan in the by-election and ensure Barisan reclaimed Nenggiri.

"I assure you that Nenggiri will undergo significant changes, and I will personally support Barisan candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani to achieve this.

"Currently, in Kelantan, we only have two representatives: Kota Lama represented by Pakatan Harapan and Galas represented by Barisan. Therefore, Barisan needs to reclaim Nenggiri,” he said.

He said it would be a loss if the people of Nenggiri did not choose Barisan.

On Barisan candidate Azmawi Fikri, Ahmad Zahid said the Umno Kelantan youth chief was chosen as he met the required criteria and was also the choice of Gua Musang Umno division chief Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

"Alhamdulillah, we have announced the candidate and the election machinery has been launched. Now, the entire Barisan machinery needs to work hard,” he said.

Azmawi Fikri, meanwhile, thanked Ahmad Zahid and Tengku Razaleigh for their trust in him to contest the by-election.

"I am not seeking personal success; instead, I want to serve the people of Nenggiri. By Allah's will, this success is for the party and for all of us,” he said.

Also present were Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Kelantan Barisan chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.

The by-election was called after the Kelantan state assembly Speaker was informed that its representative Mohd Azizi Abu Naim had ceased to be a member of Bersatu on June 13.

The Election Commission has set Aug 17 for polling, with nomination day on Aug 3 and early voting on Aug 13.- Bernama
