IPOH: Perak has seen a 12.7% drop in commercial crime cases, says Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris.

A total of 6,619 cases were recorded between January and July this year compared to 7,586 cases in the same period last year, he added.

"Our efforts in disseminating information to the public have been effective, indicating greater public awareness and knowledge of commercial crime cases," said Comm Azizi after attending a cybercrime and bullying forum at the Ipoh Convention Centre here on Saturday (Aug 3).

Comm Azizi said a total of 1,566 investigation papers were opened compared to 1,638 last year, marking a 4.4% decrease.

He added that the number of cases that have been brought to court to be charged increased from 589 to 613.

"We also conducted 688 operations, resulting in 703 arrests," he said.

Comm Azizi said online scams made up the highest number of all commercial crime cases with 1,407 cases and RM55mil in losses.

"This was followed by 60 cheating cases amounting to RM1mil in losses and 44 criminal breach of trust cases with about RM10mil worth of losses," he said.
