PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged the role of civil servants in striving to enhance performance and ensure the country's success.

He said the government is grateful that the country recently received significant recognition for its economic progress and growth, including the strengthening of the ringgit compared to 14 years ago and achieving the best performance in Asia.

"This success is certainly due to more stable politics, as well as clearer policies and frameworks.

"However, one very important element to highlight is that we have a traditional culture of civil service that works hard to help improve performance and ensure success.

"Although it is not widely publicised, that is the reality," he said in his speech at the Prime Minister's Department monthly assembly, here.

Also present were Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Dr Zaliha Mustafa and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar.

He added that when discussing such success, there must be a humble attitude so that there is room to improve efficiency and address weaknesses to achieve a higher level.

Yesterday, Anwar said the ringgit is set for its best run in 14 years because of the collective effort of Malaysians.

This as the ringgit is set for its best run on the back of optimism over the economy and inflow of foreign funds.

Today, the ringgit continued to be well supported and sustained its upward momentum for 11 straight days against the US dollar as investors redirected their investments towards the Asia-Pacific region following weaker US jobs data last Friday.

At 8am today, the ringgit appreciated to 4.4930/5010 versus the US dollar from last Friday's close of 4.4945/4995.
