KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney-General's Chamber will file an appeal following the High Court's decision to order the government to return 263.272 acres of land near Jalan Duta to a private company.

A-GC, in a statement said Semantan Estate Sdn Bhd filed an Originating Summons in the Kuala Lumpur High Court requesting the Federal Territories Land Registrar to transfer ownership of 263.272 acres of land in Mukim Batu, Kuala Lumpur to SESB under Section 417 of the National Land Code 1965.

"Today, the Kuala Lumpur High Court granted the application for the land to be transferred to SESB.

"A-GC, representing Federal Territories Land Registrar, will appeal the decision in the Court of Appeal and seek a stay of execution on the High Court's order," it said in a statement.

Previously, it was reported that the government had been ordered to return the land, home to several government complexes to Semantan Estate (1952) Sdn Bhd.

This is after a High Court on Tuesday approved the liquidator's request to transfer the land dubbed as Duta Enclave in Mukim Batu to Semantan Estate (1952) Sdn Bhd, The Edge reported.

The land is currently home to several government buildings, including the former National Hockey Stadium, the National Tennis Complex, the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia, the Federal Territory Mosque, the National Archives, and the Inland Revenue Board Complex.

Judge Datuk Ahmad Shahrir Salleh allowed the company's application, enforcing a 2009 court order that mandates the transfer of the land to its liquidator.
