KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 12): Malaysia will continuously assess the impact of external factors on the economy, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Monday.

He said the government is mindful of the geopolitical risk and other international factors impacting the Malaysian economy, and will assess the situation from time to time.

"Now we are on track [to achieve economic growth]," he told reporters on the sidelines of the Malaysia Commercialisation Year 2024 Summit here on Monday.

Anwar was responding to a question about whether external factors, including the recent 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Japan and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, could impact the Malaysian economy.

In May, the Ministry of Finance said the government is optimistic that Malaysia’s gross domestic product is well placed to expand within the official forecast range of 4% to 5% in 2024, driven by higher-than-expected growth of 4.2% in the first quarter of 2024.
