KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's sons have been given a final 30-day extension to declare their assets, says Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said the former prime minister's sons, Mirzan and Mokhzani were given until mid-September to provide details of their assets, Bernama reported.

“This is the final decision and after they have declared their assets, we will inform the media of the latest developments,” he said at a press conference after launching the Anti-Corruption Prevention Initiative Through Strengthening Accounting and Auditing Practices, at the Royale Chulan Hotel here on Wednesday (Aug 14).

Azam said if the brothers failed to declare their assets, action would be taken against them.

On Jan 18, MACC had presented a notice to Mirzan and Mohkzani to declare all of their assets in the country and abroad they had accumulated since 1981.

Both Mokhzani and Mirzan were granted multiple deadline extensions by the MACC.

In another matter, Azam said the investigation into the Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) contract awarded to the husband of Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, was expected to be completed soon.

"I believe the investigation report will be completed within the next month or two,” he said.

It was previously reported that Yeoh welcomed the probe by MACC to investigate allegations of awarding the contract involving the DRT pilot project under the Selangor government to her husband’s company, Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd (Asia Mobiliti).

She was reported as saying that everyone, including herself, has the right to seek the truth and evidence regarding the matter, which also involves Asia Mobility where her husband, M. Ramachandran, is the chief executive officer.

On June 10, Azam said while the commission had not found any wrongdoing in the interim investigation involving the Asia Mobiliti company as the Selangor Mobility Initiative contract was awarded by the state government and not by Yeoh’s ministry, further probe will continue.
