GUA MUSANG: Perikatan Nasional, particularly Pas has been using old issues to attack Barisan Nasional in their campaign for the Nenggiri by-election.

Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah , who is BN's election director for the by-election said PN parties played up various topics including land matters to attract votes.

"If I don't say this...other people will also talk about it (Pas using old issues to woo voters).

"But what I want to say here is that there is no issue at all because everybody is harping on these issues.

"Pas has been doing nothing to help the people in Nenggiri. They have played up old issues just to woo Nenggiri voters," he said.

Speaking at a press conference after meeting Jeram Tekoh settlers here today, Tengku Razaleigh, who is fondly known as Ku Li said he hoped BN candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani would gain victory in Saturday's by-election.

"BN will not promise the moon to the voters, but we think we can give what the people need such as education and others.

"We (BN) will remain the same party and will use the same approach in the campaigning.

"We want to ensure we can win this 100 per cent Malay state constituency. We hope voters give BN a chance to change Nenggiri," he said.

On BN's candidate, the veteran Umno leader, who was on his first day campaigning for Nenggiri, said Azmawi has potential as an assemblyman.

"I do not want to compare our candidate with PN's candidate, but as far as I am concerned, he has completed his learning process.

"I believe he can be a good assemblyman and give the best service to the people in Nenggiri if he wins," he added.

The Nenggiri by-election will see a straight fight between Azmawi and Perikatan Nasional candidate Mohd Rizwadi Ismail.

The by-election was called after Kelantan Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, declared the seat, previously held by Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, vacant.

Mohd Aziz is among the six Bersatu 'rebels' who had threw their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership.

In the Kelantan state election held in August last year, Mohd Azizi won Nenggiri with a narrow majority of 810 votes in a straight fight against a BN candidate.
