SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has described talk that he is the Mentri Besar who would be made a Cabinet minister as "mischievous".

The Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar said there is no need for a new appointment to the Cabinet now as the current federal administration was already doing a good job.

Aminuddin also said that he has neither heard any talk on the matter nor been summoned by the Prime Minister who has sole prerogative over such matters.

"Such talk is pure mischief.

"Personally, although this is the discretion of the PM, I do not harbour any hope of being appointed to the Cabinet for now," he told reporters when met after chairing the state exco meeting at Wisma Negri.

Aminuddin, who is also Port Dickson MP, said such talk was normal in politics.

"The rumour mill tends to churn out such stories when there are no political developments for some time," he said.

On Monday, a news portal had quoted a “well-placed” source as saying that a prominent minister from PKR might be reassigned or dropped from the Cabinet.

It went on to say that a mentri besar is set to take on a ministerial role.

The report also suggested that a Cabinet reshuffle might take place by the end of this month.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has since denied reports of an impending Cabinet reshuffle adding that he himself was in the dark over the matter.

Aminuddin said personally, he sees no reason for a Cabinet reshuffle.

"There were one or two weaknesses previously but overall, I see the performances of the ministers have improved in the past year.

"The economy is also doing well, the ringgit and our exports have improved and these are all positive developments which instil confidence in foreign investors," he said adding that even the local bourse was doing well.

Aminuddin said the country was in good hands and personally, he saw no reason for changes, especially for important portfolios.

"So all this talk to me is just a joke. To me personally, it is not the time for changes," he said.

On a separate matter, Aminuddin said the state Drainage and Irrigation Department has been asked to carry out additional measures to prevent flooding in several areas in Port Dickson.

Several low lying areas in the district were affected by flash floods on Sunday due to continuous heavy rain and high tide.

Aminuddin said the DID has among others been told to widen and deepen rivers in low lying Lukut and to issue early warnings in the case of flooding.
