PETALING JAYA: The six former Bersatu MPs expelled from the party for supporting the Prime Minister say they have received their lawmaker allocations from the government without any conditions.

Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (pic) was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying that the six now-independent MPs had approached Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to request allocations which were then approved without the need to sign any memorandum of understanding (MOU).

“We asked Anwar for permission to support the unity government so that we may receive allocations in the same way government MPs get theirs, to which he agreed.

“Because of our voluntary support for the government, we were not subjected to any conditions like those imposed on the Opposition and there was no need to sign any MOU,” he told the daily on Thursday (Sept 5).

Azizi added that the six MPs received their full MP allocation which included a minimum of approximately RM4mil per year each for the management and development of their constituencies, with RM1mil more for other civil work.

This comes after almost two years of unresolved discussions between the government and Opposition MPs for the allocations.

On Tuesday (Sept 3), Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stressed that the government would not disclose the allocation amount for Opposition MPs in the draft MOU until the terms of the agreement had been agreed upon.

Later the same day, Opposition chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said internal discussions on the draft MOU would be held on Monday (Sept 9) before providing feedback to the unity government.
