KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Communications Sdn Bhd has confirmed that it received requests from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for information related to the 1Bestarinet Project.
YTL Communications said this in a statement today, addressing reports circulating online about an ongoing investigation by the MACC concerning the company, a subsidiary of YTL Corporation Berhad.
The 1Bestarinet Project, awarded to YTL Communications in 2011 by the Education Ministry, was the result of an open tender process that saw 19 companies submit bids.
"We can confirm that MACC has recently requested information from YTL Communications in respect of the 1Bestarinet Project.
"YTL Communications was chosen due to its bid being the most technically compliant and cost-effective.
"The project was certified by the Education Ministry as completed at the end of the contract period on 30 June 2019," it said.
YTL Communications assured that it is fully cooperating with the MACC and expressed confidence that the matter will be resolved satisfactorily.
Earlier, it was reported that MACC had launched an investigation into a payment claim related to the Education Ministry's 1BestariNet service tender, valued at RM4 billion, which was awarded to YTL Communications in 2011.
Sources said that MACC conducted raids at a government office and the YTL Communications Sdn Bhd office in Kuala Lumpur today.
Several documents were seized, and the commission is in the process of identifying witnesses to assist in the investigation.
