PUTRAJAYA: Petronas is projected to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) domestically by 2028.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the use of SAF is crucial as Malaysia aims to achieve net zero carbon by 2050.

He said no airlines are currently using SAF due to the high costs and low production.

"SAF production will be driven by Petronas. It (Petronas) already has a strategic plan to produce SAF. I was made to understand that their production will start as early as 2028," he told reporters after the launch of the Malaysia Aviation Decarbonisation Blueprint (MADB).
