KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) is investigating the involvement of 13 bid-rigging cartels in government tenders worth RM2.37 billion.

The cartels covers 561 companies in various industries including construction, transportation, and pharmaceuticals.

This comes after MyCC announced it fined seven companies over RM446,000 for bid-rigging linked to Defence Ministry contracts worth RM20 million.

The offence contravenes Section 4 of the Competition Act.

Meanwhile, MyCC CEO Iskandar Ismail also said the body was still assessing complaints about 463 other companies for alleged bid-rigging involving tenders worth RM9.27 billion.

Speaking at a press conference, Iskandar said that bid-rigging cartels have long undermined the integrity of public procurement and that MyCC was determined to eradicate such practices.

"We are firm that integrity must be upheld throughout government procurement processes," he said adding cartels could not be tolerated.
