KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR is confident that the meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Sabah government on Sept 12 will bring "good news".

State PKR information chief Razeef Rakimin said the meeting would discuss matters related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the state's constitutional rights.

"After Sept 12, I believe the media will know what has been resolved from the meeting. I am confident there will be some good news from the discussions.

"However, I cannot disclose more at this time. We must wait," he said in a press conference.

Razeef said he had information that the several matters were almost resolved.

He said PKR was committed to implement and fight for what was enshrined in the MA63 as the matter was in the party constitution.

Asked whether Anwar was committed to fulfilling these rights, he said this government was among the fastest in resolving several issues.

"However, we acknowledge that there are some major issues still pending, such as the 40 per cent state entitled tax revenue issue, which I believe has already been explained.

"We never said we wouldn't give it, we never said we rejected it.

"We are still implementing it, but we are looking at what is best for Sabah because we acknowledge that we are far behind in terms of development, including infrastructure.

"Therefore, we are assessing whether the 40 per cent is sufficient for us. So, when it is assessed as insufficient, what else can we give to Sabah that is not too burdensome for us and fair to other states as well?

"For example, major economic contributors like Selangor, Johor, and Penang also need to be treated fairly.

"These are some of the aspects being considered."
