PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's pharmaceutical industry will be "revolutionised" due to the collaboration between Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and ChemPartner, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president praised the move as another significant milestone towards enhancing UKM's capabilities in medicine and health sciences.

This comes after UKM and the China-based pharmaceutical company signed a strategic cooperation agreement to build a medical and service hub in Malaysia.

"By leveraging ChemPartner's global expertise, this cooperation aims to establish a leading medical and service hub in Malaysia, focusing on research, development, and commercialisation of innovative medical products and biotechnologies.

"This historic partnership will position Malaysia to one day help drive significant advancements and contribute to the future of global health and medical science," he wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Sep 11).

Dr Wee was one of the guests at the agreement signing ceremony held in China on Wednesday (Sept 11).

Also at the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Malaysia's Ambassador to China Datuk Norman Muhamad, ChemPartner chairman Datuk William Woo and UKM chairman Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Razak.
