KUALA LUMPUR: Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) have launched an integrated ticket to facilitate a continuous railway journey from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to the north of the peninsula.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said that with the launch, passengers only need one ticket to travel by ERL and KTMB trains.

"It saves time and money and makes taking public transport more efficient,” he told a media conference after launching the ERL and KTMB Integrated Ticket here on Friday (Sept 13).

The integrated ticket went on sale at five selected KTMB stations: Alor Setar, Sungai Petani, Butterworth, Bukit Mertajam and Ipoh via KTMB Integrated Ticketing System (KITS) as well as the ERL website on July 19.

Hasbi did not rule out the possibility of adding more southbound KTMB stations, such as Gemas (Negri Sembilan), Pulau Sebang (Melaka), Segamat (Johor) and Johor Bahru (Johor), to the list.

Meanwhile, Mohd Rani Hisham expects the sale of integrated tickets to double.

ERL chief executive officer Noormah Mohd Noor said ERL intends to explore the possibility of integrating the entire KTMB ticket booking system with the ERL ecosystem.

"Loyal customers of KTMB can now continue to plan their journey to KLIA Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 through the KLIA Ekspres service for domestic or international flights for work or family vacations," she said.

KTMB chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin said the total number of tickets sold in August was 1,327.

“We expect the number to double in September. Hopefully, with this official launch, ticket sales will soar. The collaboration is a win-win situation for both railway operators,” he said. – Bernama
