Monsoon surge predicted to last until Christmas Eve

PETALING JAYA: The ongoing monsoon surge is expected to continue until Christmas Eve on Tuesday (Dec 24).

This prediction is based on an analysis of the latest weather models, according to the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) on its website.

Additionally, a low-pressure area formed in Sarawak is forecasted to persist until Sunday (Dec 22).

"This condition has the potential to cause continuous rainfall in Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan during this period," it stated.

MetMalaysia has updated its Continuous Rain Warning for Sarawak, Sabah, and WP Labuan, effective until Sunday

In an advisory issued at 11.45am on Friday (Dec 20), MetMalaysia warned of a severe continuous rain alert (orange) for Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, and Bintulu in Sarawak.

It also issued a continuous rain warning at alert level (yellow) for Kapit (Song and Kapit), Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri, and Marudi), and Limbang in Sarawak; Interior (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau, and Tambunan); West Coast; Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran, and Sandakan); Kudat in Sabah; and Labuan.

A warning for strong wind and rough sea for the South China Sea has also been issued, effective until Dec 24.
