PUTRAJAYA: Sarawak Mufti Datuk Kipli Yassin has been named the recipient of the 2024 Perdana Maulidur Rasul Award in recognition of his significant contributions to Islamic development at both federal and state levels.
Since his appointment in 2010, Kipli had chaired the Shariah Committee on Islamic Accounting Standards under the National Accounting Department, overseeing the creation of the world's first such standard.
In addition, the 57-year-old had presented papers at international halal seminars and joined a Malaysian research team studying vaccines in Cuba.
At the state level, Kipli played a key role in upgrading the Sarawak Mufti Office to the Sarawak State Mufti Department in 2013, increasing its workforce from 12 to 86 staff members.
The award was presented by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia. Kipli received RM50,000, along with a trophy, a medal, and a certificate of appreciation.
Meanwhile, six other individuals were honoured with the 2024 Maulidur Rasul Award.
The recipients included Datin Aminah Zakaria of the Persatuan Persaudaraan Muslimah Malaysia, Kota Kinabalu City Mosque chairman Datuk Ab Jamal Tun Sakaran, Universiti Putra Malaysia microbiology professor Datin Dr Khatijah Mohamad Yusof, Professor Emeritus Dr Shaharir Mohamad Zain, deaf advocate Sariah Ibrahim, and businessman Michael Tong Wai Siong.
Each recipient received RM30,000, a trophy, and a certificate of appreciation.
