KOTA BARU: Perikatan Nasional urged the federal government to prepare a new draft for the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on allocations for the opposition members of parliament.

PN chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said they also demanded the government to set up a special committee to discuss the MoU.

He added the opposition would not move forward with any discussion for constituency-based allocations as long as they are based on the current MoU draft.

Takiyuddin, who is Pas secretary-general said everything contained in these draft MoU was one-sided and unacceptable.

"For us, a special committee to look into what is needed in the MoU must be set up so that both parties can sit down and discuss the documents."

Takiyuddin, who is Kota Baru member of parliament said this at a press conference at his office here today.

Also present were several opposition MPs from Kelantan and Kedah.

Takiyuddin said the opposition felt there was no need to send any official letter to Deputy Prime Minister ll Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof on their rejection of the proposed MoU draft.

"The government has sent us the MoU draft without considering our views. So we don't need to send them an official letter.

"For us, it is enough to inform the public of our rejection," he added.

On Sunday, Fadillah released two drafts of the MoU, and said the people could make their own conclusion about claims made by opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin about the MoU.

A day before that, Hamzah had claimed the proposed drafts went against the Federal Constitution, with conditions that touched on the special position of the Malays and Bumiputeras.
