PETALING JAYA: A thunderstorm and heavy rain advisory has been issued for most of Malaysia on Saturday (Oct 5).
The affected areas include the entire states of Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Negri Sembilan, according to a report by the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued at 2.45pm.
Other regions impacted are Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang, and Muallim), Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, and Dungun), and Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Raub, Jerantut, and Bentong), as well as Jasin in Melaka.
Johor areas such as Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Bahru are also experiencing thunderstorms. In Sarawak, Kuching, Samarahan, Betong, Mukah, Miri, and Limbang are affected, while in Sabah, thunderstorms are reported in Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Tambunan, West Coast, Tawau, Lahad Datu, Sandakan, Kinabatangan, and Kudat.
The thunderstorms are expected to persist until 5pm.
Malaysia is currently undergoing the inter-monsoon period, which is anticipated to last until early November.
The heavy rains have led to flash floods in Selangor, Perak, and Kedah.
