JOHOR BARU: SWM Environment Sdn Bhd has activated its flood season operations plan to support the state government's preparations for the upcoming northeast monsoon, expected to begin in November and last until March next year.
Its corporate general manager, Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin, said SWM Environment would ensure that drain-cleaning services in 15 local municipal council areas are carried out as scheduled.
This is in line with the state's "Op Longkang" initiative, aimed at preventing clogged drainage systems, the key cause of flooding.
"We will work with the state government, local councils and the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation to implement flood response efforts, particularly in high-risk flood zones," he said in a statement today.
SWM Environment's 15 operational branches are ready with rapid-response teams to assist authorities in critical areas.
The company will also assist flood victims at temporary evacuation centres by managing waste collection and providing bins as required.
Additionally, SWM Environment has vehicles equipped with high-pressure water jets, suction trucks, roll-on roll-off trucks and backhoes on standby for post-flood clean-up operations, as requested by local authorities.
Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to keep their wheelie bins inside their homes to prevent them from being swept away by floodwaters.
In cases where bins are lost due to floods, residents can request replacements by submitting a police report.
Meanwhile, SWM Environment, through its corporate social responsibility initiative, SWM Kasih, provided aid to about 100 flood victims from Kampung Tengah Renggam, Kampung Paya Baru and Taman Layang-Layang.
The victims, housed at the temporarily relief centres in SK Seri Kampung Renggam and SJK(C) Layang-Layang, received food aid packages.
SWM Environment also donated 10 high-powered cleaning machines to aid in post-flood clean-up efforts.
