KOTA KINABALU: The Education Ministry has called on senior school administrators to refrain from concealing any bullying incidents involving students.
Its minister, Fadhlina Sidek, said that her office has received reports of certain schools hiding bullying cases.
She added that strict action would be taken against school leaders involved in such cover-ups.
"We've received reports of senior administrators hiding bullying cases in schools, and we don't view this as something that should be concealed.
"We will take strict action against administrators who do this, as schools must comply with our guidelines.
"These guidelines have been repeatedly emphasised, and they must follow each step to ensure transparent justice and investigations.
"This is essential to maintain students' trust in schools as safe spaces," she said.
She added that these efforts aim to ensure students can attend school safely while addressing their psychosocial and mental health needs quickly, especially in cases involving bullying.
Fadhlina spoke to reporters after officiating the 'Madani Leadership Movement: Stop Bullying' programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Lok Yuk Likas.
Also present were Sabah Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif; Sabah State Education Department director Datuk Raisin Saidin; and Likas assemblyman Datuk Tan Lee Fat.
