SUNGAI PETANI: Malaysia has promised to be the best host in organising several key meetings related to the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) next year.

As the AIPA president, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said he has carefully planned and prepared to manage all related events, including five meetings, with the AIPA general assembly scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur from Sept 1-6.

“Other meetings will be held in various states, including Selangor, Pahang, and Sarawak, ensuring that our guests are distributed across the states.

“This will allow them not only to experience the beauty and vibrancy of Kuala Lumpur, but also to explore what is happening in other parts of the country,” he said after presenting aid to flood victims at Masjid Safuan Kariah Pekan Jeniang, Gurun, yesterday, Bernama reported.

Johari said he was confident that the events would be well-received by Asean countries, citing the positive feedback he has received so far.

He also announced that he will begin a tour of all Asean nations starting on Jan 13, during which he will meet with the parliaments of the respective countries.

The purpose of this tour, he added, is to gather the necessary input to ensure that Malaysia can be the best host for AIPA.

Johari accepted the task of the 46th AIPA president for 2025, in October, from Laos.

Malaysia last hosted as AIPA president in 2015.
