Wall Street traded towards an intra-day low of 17,855.55 pts before closing marginally lower at 17,977.24 pts as traders were cautious ahead of the FOMC meeting this week (26-27 Apr), coupled with declining oil prices. Also, investors are waiting for more earnings reports to understand the situation of corporate profits this quarter.
FBM KLCI: 1,714.51 pts (-3.45pts, -0.20%)
Profit taking activities continues among the shares on Bursa Malaysia, the FBM KLCI closed marginally lower by 3.45 pts to 1,714.51 pts. The key index is likely to trade within the sideways zone between the 1,700-1,730 level over the near term.
Crude Palm Oil: RM2,655 (-RM35, -1.30%)
CPO continues to fall below the RM2,700 per metric ton level as soybean oil extends losses. Meanwhile, Tanah Makmur Bhd's major shareholder, Tengku Abdullah Ahmad Shah has proposed to privatise the Pahang-based plantation player at RM1.80.
WTI Crude Oil: $42.64 (-$1.09, -2.51%)
WTI crude oil traded lower after the talk failed to agree on the output freeze. Furthermore, Genscape reported a 1.5mln barrel build in Cushing inventories, which is larger than the 1.2mln expected. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is increasing its production and making inroads into China.
Gold: $1,237.97 (+$4.94, +0.40%)
Gold resumed its first gain after falling for three sessions last week on the back of an unexpected decrease in new-home sales in the U.S.; home purchases fell for a third straight month amid the weakest pace of demand in the U.S. West since July 2014.
