When World War 2 ended in 1945, both Germany and Japan lie like a heap of rubbish. All their factories that  were converted into making guns, ammunition, tanks & planes were totally  bombed out. The aftermath of the war devastation were 100 times worse than The Asian Financial Crisis!   Amazingly, 40 years later by  1985 Germany Rose Up Once Again to be The Strongest, Fastest  Growing Economy in Europe. And Japan  Is The Economic Powerhouse in Asia. While the world hate physical wars, the world did not resist economic warfare.

So what Germany & Japan lost in physical conquest they won in economic dominance. Today the best selling cars are made in Germany & Japan.  BMW, MERCEDES BENZ, AUDI FROM GERMANY AND TOYOTA, HONDA & NISSAN DOMINATE THE WORLD IN EXPORTS. (Proton & Perodua are rehatched 2nd grade Mitsubishi & Daihatsu while India’s Best selling  Maruti is actually is 3rd grade Suzuki.)

And during the 1997-98 Crisis there was a fear that the Ringgit will weaken to Rm3.00  for  each S$1.00. Actually, the root of the problem is not a weak ringgit, since Thai  bath also weaken in tandem. It is THE MIGHTY  SING DOLLAR  that IS GROWING STRONGER  ALL THE TIME. THE DAY MIGHT COME WHEN THE SING DOLLAR  WILL  RISE UP IN PAR VALUE WITH THE US $ – YES A ONE TO ONE PARITY!

Johoreans work in Singapore by day;  live in Johore by night. Earning 1st World Wages & living at 3rd World costs. Johor also known as ISKANDAR IS REALLY THE BEST KEPT SECRET IN THE WORLD!  (Note: they called Australia the “Lucky Country” actually they should call Iskandar the “Lucky State” instead. By  5 pm most of the shops are closed in Australia. At every corner in Iskandar you can find teh tarik 24 hour restaurants. They are also many 24 hour petrol stations & 24 hour car wash in Johor. There will most probably be a 24 Hour Supermarket in Johor in the near future. None of these are found in Australia,) .

The residents of Petaling Jaya did the same thing in the 60s & 70s when they traveled  daily to work in Kuala Lumpur. In those days employment were mostly found in K.L.; PJ was known only  as a sleeping place for tired workers. Before the Federal Highway was built the only route to KL was along the winding Klang River through Brickfields. The people of PJ then were earning in ringgit – no exchange advantage like the fortunate Johoreans today.

TRANSITORY MIGRANTS BECAME PERMANENT RESIDENTS.

Many Johoreans are from States like Kedah, Perak, Trengganu, Pahang, Seremban, Malacca, Penang, Kelantan, Sabah & Sarawak. Their intention is to earn Sing dollars. Most of them who did not qualify in their application to work in Singapore settled for Johor instead. Many did not intent to live here originally.  They hope to earn enough and then return to their home towns and buy their own  property one day. However, with the increasing comfort and a stable job many johoreans  have decided to settle down permanently in Iskandar.  So instead of returning to their home towns, it is the other way round – many have  sent for their wives, children, parents and grand parents to come and settle down in Iskandar since the prospect here is better and the future look brighter and more and more promising.
