Gobind: Budget 2020 helps country realise digital transformation agenda

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 — Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo today welcomed the country’s budget for next year, which focuses on building more digital infrastructure and stimulating the digital economy.

He said the allocation announced for the purpose was timely as it would help the country realise its digital transformation agenda.

 
 

“It is right on track, which focuses on the future and empowers the people of Malaysia.

“It (the budget) is also in line with the objectives of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia to realise the vision of forming a digital nation,” he told reporters after the tabling of Budget 2020 by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng in Parliament here today.

 

Lim said the government would develop the necessary infrastructure to form a Digital Malaysia through the implementation of the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP) over a five-year period.

 

The NFCP is slated to provide comprehensive high-speed broadband coverage and high-quality digital networks throughout the country, including rural areas.

The plan, according to Lim, will involve a total investment of RM21.6 billion, through private-public cooperation.

Meanwhile, RM210 million has been allocated to accelerate the deployment of new digital infrastructure for public buildings, especially schools, as well as high impact areas such as industrial parks. — Bernama

 

 

In this latest announcement just after the budget speech MCMC Minister Gobind Singh repeated these 3 times

 

1) the country’s budget for next year, which focuses on building more digital infrastructure and stimulating the digital economy.

1.0       INTRODUCTION

The Board of Directors of Ariantec Global Berhad ("AGB" or "the Company") is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary, Ariantec Sdn. Bhd. (“Ariantec”) has secured a contract from Niagara Technologies International Sdn Bhd, a system integrator in respect of sub-contract work of Supply, Delivery, Installation, Testing, Commissioning and Maintenance of Bandwidth Management Equipments for Telekom Malaysia Bhd.’s group of company (collectively referred as “Contract”) for a contract sum of RM19,758,062.00.


2.0       INFORMATION ON THE CONTRACT

The Contract comprises supply, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of Exinda bandwidth management equipment. The Contract will be delivered in 4th quarter of 2011.


3.0       FINANCIAL EFFECTS

The Contract is expected to contribute positively to the earnings of AGB Group for the financial year ending 31 December 2011.
 

4.0       RISK FACTORS

The Project is subject to certain risks such as availability of labour and materials, increase in cost due to any escalation in material costs and contractual terms including payment and default provisions. The Company has engaged the necessary skilled manpower to undertake this project and keep a database of potential candidates for additional recruitment or replacement.  As such, the management believe that the Company is able to mitigate some of the abovementioned risk factors.


5.0       DIRECTORS' AND MAJOR SHAREHOLDERS' INTEREST

None of the Directors or major shareholders or persons connected with the Directors or major shareholders of the Company has any direct or indirect interest in the Contract.


6.0       DIRECTORS' STATEMENT

The Board of Directors of AGB is of the opinion that the acceptance of the Contract is in the best interest of the Company.

PUTRAJAYA: The government is open to using whatever infrastructure available to drive Internet penetration in rural areas throughout the country.

There are at least a million people in very remote areas and a further 2.5 million to 2.8 million still with slow-speed Internet access in semi-urban and rural areas.


To get faster-speed broadband to outlying areas, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said he is exploring the use of satellites, running fibre along sewerage pipes and even possibly opening access to existing poles that carry wires to homes.

“In terms of infrastructure, a lot more need to be done. There are many areas which have not yet been wired up so there is a need to think outside the box and look into new ways to provide infrastructure which is faster and cheaper for the general public.
