Dear Mr KC Chong,

You have mentioned a few names. How about Calvin Tan? Most of my investments are in index funds and low cost mutual funds.

Thank you

Better being a grandfather and father than stock picking

I am among the top 20 for 2017 stock pick but for 2018, my performance is bad at 59. So it seem that my top ranking in 2017 seem to be lucky.

I am good at being a grandfather since 2017 when my grandson is born. However, it seem I am not that good a husband since I am divorced more than once.

As for being a father, it has been plenty of challenges to my three almost grown up sons and one daughter.

So stick to what I am good at. Being a family man instead of trying to be a smart guy stock picking.

My investment strategy for the last few decades has been to follow Warren Buffet style which is buy index funds and just forget about it. So most of my investments are in index funds and ETFs. My foolish venture into stock picking has been foolish.

I admit it. I am not good at stock picking. Despite a place reserved for me for 2020 stock pick, I have decided not to join in.

SUSPENDED and delisted soon

Further to our announcements dated 2 August 2019 and 5 August 2019, the Board of Directors (“Board”) of Berjaya Land Berhad (“BLand” or “Company”) wishes to announce that Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad (“Bursa Securities”) has, vide its letter dated 6 September 2019, resolved not to approve BLand’s application for an extension of time to comply with its approved minimum public shareholding spread requirement of 15% (“Public Spread”).

Since Berjaya Corporation share price is 27 sen while Berjaya Land is 19 sen, there is the real possibility that privatisation deal could be an exchange of 1000 shares of Berjaya Land for 700 shares of Berjaya Corporation. End of the day, no gain no loss.

As a seasoned investor and speculator since before the 1997 crisis, I have seen such things being done.

Bursa reprimands, fines CAP chairman and two directors

KUALA LUMPUR: China Automobile Parts Holdings Ltd’s (CAP) executive chairman Wang Yu Yun and two of the company’s directors were publicly reprimanded and fined by Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd for breaches of the stock exchange’s rules.

As of Tuesday, the PN17 company has yet to issue its accounts and annual report for the financial year ended June 30, 2017.

Bursa Malaysia said it has imposed fines amounting RM1,135,200 on Wang - as at Sept 4 - for his failure to ensure the company’s financial statements are issued on time, as well as for breaches of other listing rules.

Executive director Chen Xun Ze was fined RM352,200 for the same offences.

These fines are subject to a maximum of RM1mil for each financial statement.

Meanwhile, independent director Zhu Guo He was publicly reprimanded and fined RM40,600.

Bursa Malaysia said the delay in the announcement of the quarterly results ended March 31, 2017 and reissuance of the audited financial statements 2015 (AFS 2015) which led to the delay in the release of the subsequent financial statements were mainly due to CAP’s failure to resolve the material audit issues raised by its external auditors on April 25, 2017.

“In addition, CAP had failed to demonstrate reasonable and expeditious efforts taken including settlement of the outstanding audit fees to expedite the reissuance of AFS 2015 and appointment of the audit committee and company secretary which had allegedly led to the company’s inability to review the financial statements and make the relevant announcements,’ it said.

In particular, Wang and Chen were in a position but had failed, refused and/or neglected to address/resolve the audit issues with the external auditors and were lackadaisical in the appointment of the company secretary and settlement of the outstanding fees to the external auditors.

Meanwhile, Zhu, according to the exchange, had failed to demonstrate that he had taken reasonable efforts to inquire, follow-up, monitor and supervise the resolution of the audit issues and appointment of the company secretary.

I cannot believe it that I am number 7 ahead of the well known profiles. But nothing to boast since it is a loss of 5% and the year has yet to end. As Calvin Tan always says, "Durian trees need time to grow and fruit". LOL
As for my portfolio with real cash, I am losing at least 10%, so nothing to be proud of. And my JCY is losing at least 40%, while CAP bought at one sen is suspended. Lucky I only put in EM2k for JCY and RM100 for CAP.

Dear Mr Joe Tay Ya Yee,
It is not very nice to troll and make fun. I should know after many decades coming out in the news paper and TV.
Perhaps more analytic review would be better. After all even scrap metal has some value. Well, for information I am also a Parkson shareholder buying just 1000 shares at 54sen just for fun.
Since both of us have played the share market for many decades, sometime fundamental companies remain stagnant while rubbish companies shoot up. Remember Repco, Union paper and many more in the 1990s going above RM100?
We all are here for one reason or another but hopefully to learn about the share market. I wish you well and have a nice day.

My average cost is RM2.60 but I smell a rat here. Suddenly volume 10 million just before good results out. I know it surely will go up in a matter of time. It has to be insider buying 10 million. While I know it will go up, yet I pray it will go down instead to teach these insiders a lesson.

Good day Mr Flyinghigh,

Just out of curiosity. How did you know who is behind the C2 losses? There is no way that person be so powerful to influence the price. As a person who comes out in news paper and TV a lot, there are ways for me to find out who that person is but my conclusion is that the person in question is not that powerful. After all, JCY is a large capitalised company instead of some penny stock with few shares where even I could manipulate?

My two cents worth. Hiding behind an anonymous profile and then conduct uncivilised behaviour earn no brownie points.

People like myself who appear frequently in news paper and TV are certainly more reserved where my recent appearance in news paper was as recent as yesterday as follows:

Page 20 of The New Straits 10th October 2017, Tuesday
https://www.nst.com.my/opinion/letters/2017/10/289496/foreign-coins-no-small-change-regular-folk-myself

The others who do are actual person not hiding behind any anonymous are Koon Yew Yin, OTB, KC Chong and Calvin Tan. Their conduct seem to be more acceptable. Yes even Calvin Tan although some of his calculation methods and business sense seem to be unorthodox.

Maybe Admin of I3 need to consider that every profile must be the actual name and profile details. Then there would be less uncivilised behaviour.

Despite many decades appearing in news paper and TV, I have been attacked constantly by anonymous people who tend to be key board warriors without substance.

So I3 Admin. If you are reading this and if you know who I am, then make it a requirement that each profile must be supported by some form of identification. I have been in the media for so long to know that people are more sensible when the identity is known.

Suggest that each profile must have actual name, photos, and other traceable relevant details.

Good morning Mr Calvin Tan. Seem like Berjaya Corp inching up slowly but hopefully surely as I went in at 38.
Surprised you dare to buy 20 properties in Kota Masai. But people like myself would not be taking high risk when every thing is stable. For me, one million in EPF giving RM60k per year can sustain my family indefinitely. I turned risk adverse the day my EFP touched one million where my passive income can sustain my family.

You seem to be leaving out Berjaya Land which owns 40 percent of cash cow toto? Your whatsapp message said it is a good buy but is it a better buy than Berjaya Corp?
Have a great morning.

Mr Calvin Tan,
Nice chatting with you. Nice pool view. As usual, I make my decision on the share market.

Berjaya Sports Toto have been on the down trend for years where dividends cannot cover the capital loss. I went in at 2.75 but now 2.3 and is still on the down trend.
My point here is that not all Berjaya companies are doing well. Berjaya Toto being the cash cow may drag down Berjaya Corp group of companies as its cash flows dry up.
It may be better to load up on Berjaya Sports Toto instead of the other Berjaya companies. So what do you think?

Oh yes, the dog belongs to my neighbour where I do play with him often.

Thanks Joetay. I also got B Toto at average of RM2.7 but now around 2.3

Toto used to be at 5 and has gone down to 2.3 maybe due to declining sales resulting from illegal punters.

The comfort can be derived from steady dividends. Believe it or not, I find B Toto to be a speculative counter after they got involved with some motor franchise and going into other business not related to number forecasting.

There is some truth in what Kimmy Juice statement of avoiding VT counters.

In conclusion, the share market is a casino with anything happening. So sometimes bad counters give good returns and sometimes good counters give bad returns. That is why I treat the share market as my hobby and nothing else.

Oh yes, I just came out in news paper today as follows:

Thank you Joetay for your input. Agree that the holding structure is complicated but can be worked out.
Bought B Corp just for fun as it was low enough. With only 3% of my wealth in the share market, I can afford to take it easier.
However, there really is value in some of B Corp businesses. Betting on the Vietnam lottery thing to take off.
However, I must admit that I did get myself burnt when it was Berjaya group in the 1990's when I knew how to buy low but did not sell at the peak and held on until it consolidated to B Corp.
I was young then and lost RM3k where money was big in the 1990's.
I refer to Calvin's write up on Berjaya not too long ago where Calvin said got great value and should be very high. I discounted Calvin's calculations a lot and still come up a good mark up.
In I3, one should take what others say with a pinch of salt. I took Calvin's write up with many pinches of salt and concluded that B Corp should be at a higher price.

End of the day, if ever I get stuck in B Corp, I only have myself to blame.

I am here to read Calvin Tan's write up on Berjaya Corp because I bought at 38 sen but now 33 sen.

Frankly, I do take what Calvin writes with a pinch of salt and sometimes many pinches. However, there is some good facts highlighted by Calvin whom we have met many times during the MUI group AGMs. He does not remember me but I remember him.

Seeing the comments make me wonder why I even read them with so much bashing of each other.

I really have only 3% of my total assets in the share market and so do not get all so worked up. Yet it is wished that those in I3 wrote more professionally.

Anyway, my name is Ng Shu Tsung and if you google me or see my facebook, I have many media appearances relating to my write ups over the decades appearing a lot in news paper and TV. So I know a little about professional writing.

As for Calvin ranking 224, well, it is quite low but his counters sometimes need more than one year to realise. Calvin may be 224 now but could be number 1 next year. I just was recently lucky to get back my money is a highly speculative Huaan and even made money but I averaged down since 33 sen. So that makes me a sochai for 6 long years and only now a smart guy.

It is wished that I3 has more healthy debate. A few sarcastic remarks here and there is acceptable but not bashing up.

So to Calvin. Keep on writing and keep contributing.
