What is more interesting is that Eden owns 2 IPP power plants: a 20 MW hydro (renewable energy) in Kelantan and a 60 MW thermal plant in Sabah. These power plants were being rehabilitated and expected to generate profitable, steady and robust income streams for Eden going forward. In addition Eden also has biz in hospitality and tourism sector. And off course not forgetting that Eden has a large land bank at a very strategic location and the net book value of Eden shares is much more than 70 sen.

Gunung biz does not correlate so much to current economic or market conditions. On top Gunung currently can be catogarised as i a special condition stock. Apart from its involvement in growing green energy, it is in the midst of changing its controlling shareholder.

Yes indirect benefit from the crisis.

True but most likely there will be higher demand for KPJ hospital as more hospital beds needed to cater for suspected virus patients and some normal patients may have to be shifted.

Funding for equity portion of the project should not be an issue to Tadmax. Tadmax will most likely to sell down their initial 100% equity in the project company to the other two partners at a premium as it is Tadmax that initially developed and finally bagged the project. On top the project will be built on land in Pulau Indah belong to Tadmax. The amount of equity needed for the project will not be that high compared to coal plants. The total cost is estimated to be only at RM3.5b and the rest of the cost will be funded by non recourse debts.
Bear in mind this is an IPP project based on negotiated basis and therefore very likely the return would likely be quite attractive.
There is no delay in the construction of the plant as it is the government pushed back the Commercial Operational Date from January 2023 to January 2024.
2020-01-15 12:03 | Report Abuse
The IPP project had only very recently been officially approved. The construction will take about 3 years only as it is much simple plant compared to coal plant and commercial operation is targeted for 1 January 2024, four years from now. You can not simply construct a plant as and when you like as it is an IPP which has to comply strictly with the requirements and contracts with the regulator and the off taker. For your info KEPCO is the largest power utility company in South Korea with vast experience in a no of thermal plants including nuclear.

Coincidently both Tadmax and Jaks IPP have same capacities of 1,200 MW. However Tadmax power plant is gas fired and therefore cheaper to build and easier to operated and environmentally cleaner compared to that of Jaks coal plant.
2020-01-15 09:37 | Report Abuse
Just compare Tadmax with Jaks and both in very similar biz; property development and IPP. Tadmax property biz is not a drag for the company unlike that of Jaks. Tadmax own 40% of IPP in Malaysia with strong local and foreign partners and will not be expose for forex risk and not to mention foreign political country risk. In comparison Jaks only at least currently own just 30% and with exposure to foreign exchange risk and political risks. Market cap of Tadmax is only currently about less than RM 220m only whereas that of Jaksis roughly RM 830 m. On top Jaks has warrants that will be dilutive to current shareholders and not to mention Jaks had issue large amount of free shares to its management!

Eden has a good land bank but what is more important is the biz it is operating to produce continuing earnings. It core biz are hospitality and tourism services and IPP power plants in Sabah and Kelantan.

As expected there will be big positive change very soon. Gunung is still undervalued as not only it has biz in transportation but more interestingly is a big developer of a no of small hydro projects. The company balance sheet is still strong despite engaging in a no of projects.

Noted that large transactions off market all at 55 sen. It may mean that the new shareholders is willing to value Gunung at least 55 sen. Most of the earnings will be from renewable energy from hydro plants in addition of from transportation services.
2020-01-06 19:07 | Report Abuse
Today more than 9.4m shares of Gunung traded off market at 55 sen! There were heavy trading of Gunung WB a few days earlier. Definitely something brewing as the company just got RM 44 m contract for transport services and more interestingly it is actively developing a number of hydro projects, some of them have just been completed.
