Yes it's disappointing. Not the company's performance which has been stellar but the share price and really just the way the fates have been of late. After Trump's victory it's been just all downhill with FFs pulling out. But the wheel will turn again. Just gotta be patient and try not to get too emotional.

@SharkTank Same here. Cannot see AA at these levels for long. Meanwhile time to close shop for the year and enjoy the holidays.

@playplay Leaseback to AA is a good thing for the buyer I would imagine. Win-win for both sides. End of the day, the bidders will weigh all conditions and price it into their bids accordingly - mindful always that they cannot be too conservative in the face of so much competition and risk not getting invited to the party.

I would gladly party with AA stewardesses till 5am and beyond.

@SharkTank No problem. Thank you for your frequent info updates too.

The target price indicated was 1B. 12 bidders participated knowing this, which means the most aggressive ones would almost definitely have offered in excess of this price in order to improve their chances of securing the purchase. With this much competition to buy AAC, I'm pretty certain that the top few bids came in at a significant premium to the price indicated.

Inspiring. Malaysia's only real globally recognized brand. And probably it most progressive company.
2016-12-09 16:05 | Report Abuse
I imagine only the lead bidder and maybe a few of the top under-bidders will qualify for the DD stage.
2016-12-09 16:02 | Report Abuse
Due diligence will take place before SPA. DD may reveal certain issues that may cause the buyer to chip away at the price offered.

I'm a little scared, but I'm holding. Holding tight. No way I'm letting those greedy big boys get my AA for cheap. She's gonna turn the corner - just watch.

Fingers crossed. High time lah for a rebound. The selling feels completely overdone. The company is making good money and the prospects look good. Sure there are external risks that AA is managing as best as they can but operationally they're doing really well! I can't really see a good reason why it should have fallen this far this fast other than the BBs beating down the price so they can pick it up for a song in view of the potential AAC sale.

The sale is probably at due diligence stage now where the lead bidder will now conduct in-depth DD. Too early to announce anything concrete yet. Patience, comrades, patience.

Price performance being almost purely driven by negative sentiment on macro issues and pullback of funds from emerging markets. I believe once the dust settles AA's sterling fundamentals will catch the roving eyes of FFs once again. Just gotta grit your teeth, hold tight, and soldier through these volatile days.Nothing worthwhile comes easy.

Your positivity is reassuring, SharkTank. I hold the same view, but I can't help but feel a bit frustrated seeing the share price drop despite all the good news - good results, AAC sale, low oil price environment, etc. But I guess on a macro level the whole world is bearish now (except for the US markets). With impending fed rate hike, we might not have seen bottom yet. But I believe that will be the last of it, and AA will come roaring back in the new year.

Its very tiring coming to this forum trying to pick up information and share ideas with other retail investors and having to sift through all this childish nonsense instead. The big boys/FFs must read all this crap and think we're all a bunch of silly ignorant losers who deserve to get taken taken advantage of.

@Icon8888 How do you think this will affect us as shareholders of Air Asia? Will it mean that a lot of the uncertainty/political risk associated with Malaysia in general will be alleviated if the listing in HK goes through?
2016-11-25 17:41 | Report Abuse
Sigh. Oh well...I told myself I was in this for the long haul so might as well wait. All this bad sentiment has very little to do with the actual business of AA which is obviously very well run. If AA was listed on the stock exchange of a more developed country with less controversy the stock price would be soaring by now.

This supermx8 guy looks like he has a dangerous obsession with BWC. Like in a criminally insane, full-on f*cking pyschotic kind of way. Why doesn't the admin do anything?.

This is why I like Air Asia long-term. They constantly strive to be on the cutting edge of tech and innovation in marketing. Light years ahead of their competitors in marketing and branding.

Unloaded 25% of my holdings at 2.73 to pare down risk. Still have tremendous faith in AA so gonna hold on tightly to my balance 75%. So far my win wi... hahaha don't worry guys..I won't go there.

Over the last 2 quarters, generally a week before the results came out the stock price would dip. Looks like its happening again. What more with all the negative vibes in the market. Still, am confident results will be at least within expectations and give the share price a bit of a boost. Mid-term, am still very bullish on AA, and at this level looks super cheap. Gonna remain invested but am not gonna bet the farm either.

This is why TF says fair value should be around RM6 in line with global PE levels for top performing airlines. Afterall, isn't AA now not a global airline that just happens to be Malaysian based? I guess that goes to show the risk premium FFs have factored in for Malaysian stocks.
2016-11-15 10:15 | Report Abuse
That's interesting. I thought Warren Buffet didn't like airlines. Now he buys into the biggest carriers in the US.

ignissimia - good points all, and certainly ones that should not be underestimated. However, when has there ever been a time without geopolitical risk? US / Russia (and now China) sabre-rattling has been going on for decades. As for a Trump win, (unlikely, but then again, that's what we all thought about Brexit) the reaction would probably be as you described it yourself - kneejerk - which implies an overreaction that should correct itself after a short period has passed - just like Brexit.
The EU bank troubles, however, that's the one that worries me the most. Hopefully our financial sector will be insulated from the fallout just like we were during the GFC of '08. Hopefully.

Good question - does anyone know how the current run up in oil prices will affect AA? Understand AA has hedged about 75% of its fuel requirements for 2016 at USD55 a barrel so does that mean the effect will be minimal?

JJchan - granted, I agree the US consumes far more than it exports, especially compared to China. However, what sort of rough timeframe do you foresee the Yuan replacing the USD as the global currency of choice? So-called experts have been predicting the crash of the dollar for decades.

2016-10-04 11:59 | Report Abuse
JJchan... yet the Americans continue to innovate and create huge demand worldwide for their products and services. I don't see the USD being used as toilet paper anytime soon. You can bet if it ever reaches that stage, all of us on this planet will be screwed. The ringgit would have long turned to dust by then.

So there are plenty of doubts on the OPEC supply cut - meaning that it is unlikely that oil prices will rise much, if at all. Which is good for AA because it means low jet fuel cost is here to stay, at least for the medium term. On the flip side, low oil price = depressed ringgit = higher forex losses for AA. Can anyone here say which is the lesser of two evils? http://www.thestar.com.my/business/business-news/2016/09/30/ringgit-slips-early-friday-on-doubts-over-opec-move/
