Microlink bags RM49 mil job from Koperasi Co-opbank Pertama
TheEdge Mon, Sep 26, 2022 08:20pm - 3 weeks
KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 26): Microlink Solutions Bhd has secured a five-year contract worth RM48.55 million from Koperasi Co-opbank Pertama Malaysia Bhd (CBP) for the upgrade of its existing MiBS core banking platform.
In a Bursa Malaysia filing on Monday (Sept 26), Microlink said its wholly owned subsidiary Microlink Systems Sdn Bhd has accepted a letter of offer from CBP, which entails two years of implementation and three years of maintenance and support, commencing in October this year.
"The offer letter is expected to contribute positively to the revenue, earnings per share and net assets per share of the group and is not expected to have a material effect on the gearing of the group for the financial year ending March 31, 2023 onwards until the expiry of the contract," it added.
In a separate statement, Microlink group chief executive officer Ramlee Abdullah noted the group has been CBP's trusted core banking partner and solution provider for more than 20 years.
As such, Microlink has in-depth knowledge of CBP's banking operations and its team is very familiar with CBP's working processes.
"With the upgrades enshrined in our new core banking system, we will be able to help drive CBP's banking operations into the digital era.
"We are delighted to be continuing our long-standing relationship with CBP and embarking on this new phase of digitalisation with them," he said.
The upgraded IT solution blueprint includes the digital banking enablement of mobile and internet banking, to deliver a new user experience and help expand the CBP customer base. In addition, new capabilities such as hire purchase, financing origination and micro-financing will form part of the enhanced platform.
Microlink's share price ended half a sen or 0.83% higher at 60.5 sen on Monday, bringing the group a market capitalisation of RM646.6 million.

财政部机构出手救沙布拉能源?
Nanyang Sat, May 21, 2022 12:01pm - 1 day

Datasonic introduces efficiency into security with their new e-gate
The ICT solution provider took home the Cybersecurity - Non-profit or Government Organizations win at the Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2022.
Digital and cybersecurity applications in the real world hold endless values, whether it be securing a location or facility, or making sure that databases cannot be breached. Datasonic introduced their new e-gate, and in doing so, managed to win the Cybersecurity - Non-profit or Government Organizations Award at the Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2022.
The awards programme recognises breakthroughs and innovations in the tech industry of Malaysia, and Datasonic’s e-gate sets them apart from their competition thanks to a myriad of attributes and variations.
Datasonic has been engaged in technological solutions as a provider at Malaysia’s borderline, ensuring safety and security since 2017. Their e-gate serves as a self-service automatic border control system, blending together the latest technologies and innovations in hardware and multi-modal biometric matching software, producing more secure and efficient processing of travellers.
The e-gate is loaded with features designed for both security and speed, with such features including a two-step verification using a traveller’s e-passport and biometrics (facial, fingerprint, iris) verification, speeding up queues for clearance at border checkpoints. Other features include enhanced security and prevention of identity theft, a central monitoring system for the supervision of support personnel coordination, data analysis and reporting software to identify trends and potential needs in traffic flow, and anti-fraud detection.
Join Singapore Business Review community
Utilising facial recognition technology allows the Datasonic e-gate to carry out identity authentication aided with fingerprint recognition, an optimised in-house facial recognition engine specialising in Malaysian and ASEAN-centric faces has proven to have higher accuracy in face analysis and comparison compared to other market players. This system is integrated with Liveness Detection, protecting data and enhancing the trustworthiness of the security system against spoofing.
Datasonic also developed numerous variations for their e-gate in order to cater to different needs of different clients and industries with the variations being the Gen-1, which boasts a 15 second clearance time for travellers, the Gen-2, which introduces easy passport reading features, the GR-1000, which supports a combination of biometric modalities for travellers, the KF-20, and the MG 2000, which supports various security documents like identity cards, passports, and multimodal biometrics. Each variation has its own edge over the others, such as Gen-2’s faster clearance process of 5 seconds compared to the Gen-1 or the KF-20’s bidirectional configuration that allows itself to be more flexible than other variants.
The in-house facial and fingerprint recognition engine was built whilst adopting the world’s first-tier biometric product, improving its performance to better cater to a real-life environment.
Its evaluation criteria and methodology are all data-driven, with the e-gate always undergoing fine-tuning as field statistics come in to provide insight into its performance.
With a strong foundation and over two decades of experience in the industry, Datasonic continues to establish itself as a pioneer and spearhead in the industry with its capabilities and offerings. The company aims to penetrate new markets, both locally and overseas with their range of large-scale, integrated, higher-value products and software services that specialise in security.

AirAsia scaling new heights with drone training
TheStar Mon, Jan 10, 2022 12:00am - 9 hours
“No prior experience is necessary, making this a great opportunity for everyone to learn to fly.” - Bo Lingam
KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Group Bhd has become the first in Malaysia to obtain a licence to conduct drone training: a game changer in the drone delivery revolution in the country.
This would at the same time be a boost to the fast growing domestic e-commerce industry.
Group chief executive officer of AirAsia Aviation Ltd Bo Lingam said the move to train drone pilots would drive drone delivery. AirAsia Aviation Ltd is a unit of AirAsia Group.
“It’s a lucrative and incredibly fast growing market. Globally, the industry has already taken off and is projected to reach US$7.39bil (RM31bil) by 2027.
“This new training programme provides an opportunity to upskill our ‘Allstars’ and offer exciting new programmes for the broader community, as well as supporting the drone industry in providing quality training to have more qualified remote pilots in Malaysia.
“No prior experience is necessary, making this a great opportunity for everyone to learn to fly,” he told StarBiz.
Ultimately, he said this would support the company’s vision to launch urban drone delivery for goods and retail items from airasia’s e-commerce platforms.
The sky is the limit as the company could also potentially scale up to support remote areas for essential supplies during natural disasters, he added.
President AirAsia Group (digital), Aireen Omar said: “Innovation has always been in our DNA and we can’t wait to launch our AirAsia Drone Academy through our digital edutech arm, airasia academy, as we continue to support the digitalisation of Malaysia through a broad range of innovative tech-based training programmes.
“Drone delivery will soon become our latest logistics solution, providing a strong boost to support the ever growing e-commerce industry.
“Most importantly, this innovation will allow us to create new high-tech job opportunities for Malaysians.
“The ability to pivot is part of our culture and while some are losing their jobs in aviation, we offer a second chance for them to build a new career with us through e-commerce,” she said.
As a disruptive leader, Aireen said AirAsia is ready to take on new innovative challenges and embrace the wave of Industry Revolution 4.0 to its advantage.
AirAsia Group chief safety officer and head of unmanned aircraft system (UAS) Captain Ling Liong Tien said the company is thrilled to be the first in Malaysia to win approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) for the accreditation of the remote pilot training organisation (RPTO).
He said the team has been working closely with CAAM for months and looks forward to starting its first class in the coming weeks.
“The idea behind becoming an RPTO is to support the industry by providing quality remote pilot training leveraging our strong aviation background and decades of expertise. The UAS has become an important element in many industries driving cost effectiveness and numerous efficiencies.
“Our commitment is to develop a strong foundation, supported by our existing robust safety management system, crew resource management and human factors training programmes along with the remote pilot training modules - both in the class and out in the field,” he said.
Commercial remote pilot training classes would commence from Jan 24.
Interested candidates may register to enrol for one of the courses through the airasia academy website.

Covid-19: Four new Omicron cases detected in Sarawak
TheEdge Fri, Dec 24, 2021 03:23pm - 16 minutes
KUCHING (Dec 24): A total of four cases of the B.1.1.529 or Omicron Covid-19 variant have been detected in Sarawak, according to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Institute of Health and Community Medicine director Prof David Perera.
He said two of the cases were reported in Bintulu, involving a 52-year-old man who returned from Nigeria and underwent a swab test on Dec 19, following by a 19-year-old male returning from the UK who did a swab test on Dec 14.
“Another two cases were detected in Kuching. One involved a 25-year-old female who returned from the UK and had a swab test on Dec 22, while the fourth case was a female with no recent history of travel, which suggests possibility of local transmission,” he said in a statement on Friday (Dec 24).
Dr Parera, who is a member the Sarawak Covid-19 Advisory Group, said in light of possible local transmission of the highly transmissible Omicron variant in the community, the general public are urged to be extremely cautious during the festive season and year-end holidays.
He also advised the public to immediately get their booster shot if they had not done so as studies had shown that the shot is necessary to boost the waning neutralising antibody level to protect from Omicron infection.
“Public health SOPs (standard operating procedures) need to be strictly adhered to and gatherings avoided if possible to prevent further community spread,” he added.
On Dec 18, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement said two Covid-19 cases of the Omicron variant were recorded in Sarawak on Dec 17, involving two travellers, one originating from the UK and the other from the US.

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 2): Share prices of rubber glove makers including Top Glove Corp Bhd and Hartalega Holdings Bhd rebounded on bargain hunting on Thursday (Dec 2) after investors took profit in recent days and as they assessed updates on the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
At 10.16am, Top Glove shares were traded 11 sen or 4.01% higher at RM2.85, while Hartalega’s share price had risen seven sen or 1.11% to RM6.36.
Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd head of equity sales Vincent Lau told The Edge on Thursday: “For the last two days, we have seen investors booked their profits on glove stocks and today (Thursday), they’re coming back with bargain-hunting activities [following] the selling pressure previously.”“I think this rotational play will stay, especially for glove maker stocks, as investors are still assessing the latest developments surrounding the Omicron variant,” Lau said.
Glove makers have been closely watched since the Covid-19 pandemic started in early 2020 due to gloves being crucial personal protective equipment to curb the spread of the outbreak.
Looking back, share prices of glove makers rose substantially during the onset of Covid-19 in anticipation that the companies will register higher earnings from stronger demand for their products.
However, news of global Covid-19 vaccination progress tempered such sentiment on stronger demand for gloves in recent months before the current Omicron variant rekindled investors' enthusiasm for glove manufacturers.
