QE is trap. easy to get in, difficult to get out.

It will take some time for the "facts" to emerge. Both sides will file allegations, replies (usually denials) and counter allegations. This will go on for at least a few months. The court then determines what is the "truth", and that will take a couple of years at least. And there will be appeals and cross appeals and that will take another couple more years. We will lucky to know the final truth in five years. One thing for sure, there will many other suits connected with this matter. There will certainly be moves to kick TPY &... out of the board and this may trigger a boardroom battle for control of the company and this may prove to be good for the small investors.
One person has yet to emerge as defendant for failure in his fiduciary and other duties to the company. He is non other than Chong, for being the MD, he owes more duties and any other persons to safeguard the interest of the company and on the surface of it he has failed to do so. All the 3 protagonists involved in this saga should leave the Board until the final outcome is established. Expect dramas but be patient.

interest cost is major expenditure for reits with substantial borrowings but no one has come up with a plan to pare down debts. this issue is becoming increasingly important in view of the expected increase in borrowing costs. distribution reinvestment scheme may be a way out but this may not be an option for those reits that are trading below their par value.

I believe the MAS shares had already been marked to market and the difference picked up as impairment in the P&L @ last financial year end. If there is any further impairment, it should be small.

in civil suits of this nature, getting judgement is one thing, getting the compensation awarded is quite another.

kk123: that's right. Thats why Chong has to explain and may be sued for failure to safeguard Protasco's interest.
2014-09-23 19:41 | Report Abuse
Protasco is suing TPY and Ooi. They should also consider suing MD Chong, who executed the deal. I think Chong has far more to answer than anybody else.

Most forummers on this thread thought the worse case scenario was the default in the repayment of the money. Now it is far worse than that. Also, how come that TPY and OKA were on the board of PTASU was not known to the Protasco, unless its MD, Chong Kah Kiat was sleeping, or something worse than that.

investing in stocks n shares is not a zero sum game. but having loose or no rules to stop companies not in compliance with accounting and other standards to list their shares in klse leading to losses to local investers is quite another problem. most of the chinese cos listed here are suspects in this regard. thats why the good red chips are not here.
2014-09-20 23:53 | Report Abuse
with due respect to klse, it can only handle the tiny ones. among those listed here include some with dubious accounting practice and would not have been accepted for listing in any other stock exchanges.

The O&G deal lapsed on 28 July 2014. Announcement made on 4 August 2014. Deposit of RM50 million supposed to be repaid 14 days after deal lapsed, ie 11 August 2014 and is now 28 days overdue. So far no announcement. What the hell is going on?
2014-09-09 11:59 | Report Abuse
The O&G deal has been called off but NOT resolved yet. It is only considered resolved when the RM50 million is fully recovered. Certainly hope that there will be no issue here, but do not bet on it.

When the new SD was created a few years, there were indications that the non plantation businesses would be divested or listed separately. This process has off and on been talked about but nothing concrete has happened. SD has too many businesses and it does not appear that it is capable to manage them adequately, and what happened to the oil & gas business is an example. There is a lot of value hidden in the non plantation businesses and the earlier SD is re-organised the better it is for all the stakeholders.

Protasco cannot be compared with coastal. Coastal sticks to its core business and do very well in it whereas Protasco is like a loose cannon, trying to get involved in several businesses, including O&G which is a highly speculative and riddled with corruption.

At last there is someone telling us something many are suspicious but
have no proof of : that some of the research reports are so biased that they are worst than rubbish. These biased reports are in fact poisonous. This does not happen just in India where the writer resides but throughout the world where there is an active stock market. In malaysia, investor must study all research reports, weigh its comments and recommendations before putting any money in any counter. It's a sad state of affairs but it is real.

The deal to buy into OG company is so one sided that it is unbelievable. If the money paid cannot be recovered within the stipulated time frame, the whole board of directors should be made to pay.

sosfinance: Pro has twice as many shares outstanding as Pin. Pro has a more generous dividend payout policy and this together with a couple of speculative ventures are underpinning its current share price. The recent investment in a too good to be true oil & gas project and going big in the property at this time may not produce the profits as expected. I am of the view that Pin is much more solid company at their current prices and based on its historical performance is a better one to invest in.
