Would M'sia be better off with Dr M still in charge? Compared with Badawi & Najib, SADLY YES!

A decade ago today, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad left public office as the prime minister and Umno president.

Would Malaysia be any different if the acerbic leader were still in office today?

Political analysts, while having different takes on the matter, agreed on one thing: Dr Mahathir would be running a tighter ship and would not tolerate the escalation of inter-religious and inter-racial conflicts that the country is seeing now.
This would mean resorting to a firmer rule in the name of public order and political stability.

It would also mean that preventive laws such as the dreaded Internal Security Act (ISA) which provided for detention without trial and the Emergency Ordinances (EO) would very likely not be repealed.

"A strong and disciplined government was the hallmark of the Mahathir administration. Knowing him, I would not have expected him to change even if he was in charge now," said Sabah UiTM political analyst Dr Arnold Puyok.

Additionally, Dr Mahathir would unlikely allow controversial events and scandals such as the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) land deal and the RM250 million National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) cattle-rearing project to develop to the point they had.

"He ran a tighter ship and he would have found a way to manage the impact of these scandals before the news or scandals reached the public," mused political analyst Khoo Kay Peng.

In the decade since the 88-year-old Dr Mahathir retired, numerous events have taken place.

Besides the PKFZ and NFC scandals, others include Barisan Nasional losing its two-thirds majority in the 2008 and 2013 general elections, Bersih holding street rallies for free and fair elections, the Hindu rights movement Hindraf rally, and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s release from prison and acquittal of sodomy charges.

Dr Mahathir's pet projects like teaching Maths and Science in English and mega development projects which he had believed would spur the country's economic growth would have continued but possibly at the expense of good and transparent governance.

But the strongman would be facing growing public discontent which he would be hard-pressed to stifle due to a changing political landscape as well as the advent of the internet, which he had pledged will not be censored.

Dr Mahathir also would find that he cannot depend fully on the traditional print and broadcast media to shape public opinion, as seen in the last two general elections, noted Universiti Malaysia Sarawak political analyst Dr Jeniri Amir.

"He would have tried to control and exert his opinions onto the people with his logic and influence. But with growing political awareness, he would find it difficult to control and there would have been conflict between his views and that of the people.

"Like it or not, he would have had to listen to the people's demands and views. It would have been difficult to sweep many issues under the carpet as there are many ways for people to expose them due to the opening of the public sphere and greater awareness.”

Centre for Policy Initiative director Dr Lim Teck Ghee said that the public's current growing opposition to the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition and by extension to Umno is not a response to Dr Mahathir's strong personality and influence.

"It is a response to the bad governance and defective socio-economic policies put in place by the BN as well as the rampant corruption and profligacy of the country's ruling class."

Out to show how weak Najib is

Interestingly, Lim said although Dr Mahathir now seemed to have endorsed Malay right-wing group Perkasa, he would not have done so during his tenure as PM.

"Some of his actions and hardline comments have been driven by a desire to show how weak the new PM is, whether it is Abdullah Badawi or Najib Razak and how much better off the country would have been under him, rather than as evidence or proof of his support for extremism."

Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi took over the premiership and Umno presidency from Dr Mahathir when he stepped down in 2003. After BN's disastrous performance in the 2008 national polls, Abdullah stepped down and Najib took over in 2009.

Would Malaysia be a better place if Dr Mahathir were still in charge

*** The answer is YES, YES, YES

PUTAR ALAM Anwar begin his DRAMA again Hahhahahaha :-

Flip Flop of PR :-) . Hahahaha Drama Minggu ini : -

Pas will never agree to GST - Mahfuz

(NST) - Pas vice president Datuk Mahfuz Omar today took a contradictory stand over opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's positive view on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) due for implementation in April 2015.

Mahfuz said Pas would never agreed to GST implementation as they felt the taxation system would create a massive leakage in the country economy.

The Kedah Pas commissioner and the party's election machinery director for Sungai Limau by-election refused to comment on Anwar's recent about-turn over the GST issue, several days after the PKR de-facto leader announced that the Pakatan Rakyat would go all out to object its implementation.

Anwar was yesterday quoted as acknowledging that GST was an efficient taxation system and that it could be a major contributor to the national economic growth.

Why are Malays obsessed with SUPREMACY? Is it brainwashing or their own insecurity?

The great UMNO assembly has come to a conclusion and the winners and losers are now known to all. But are Malays, and especially UMNO, satisfied with the circus show that reeked of another plethora of race-bashing and the absurd belief of subscribing to “ketuanan Melayu” or Malay supremacy?

Why are the Malays obsessed with being supreme over the minorities in the country? Are they being brainwashed by their leaders or is it just their bad nature, a sort of defense mechanism and sick insecurity to wish to rub it into the faces of the other races?

Tough questions although the answers are not difficult to find.

The recently-concluded UMNO assembly ended in a whimper and there is sufficient proof and evidence to suggest that UMNO is terribly dissatisfied with all that has materialized so far for the Malays and that is why there was a show of anger and resentment towards the other races by its leaders.

But when will UMNO leaders own up and admit to their faults and weaknesses instead of shifting the blame on the non-Malays? If only they will learn to play by the rules of “demokrasi tulen” or pure democracy instead of their tinkered version of democracy, all will be well for all Malaysians.

UMNO’s bizarre way and manner of implementing skewered democracy since they evicted Tunku Abdul Rahman from the prime minister’s chair is to be fully blamed for how Malaysia has evolved into a state of disarray.

There is historical evidence to suggest that it is not the Malays or Chinese or Indians that have failed the nation but the subsequent UMNO leaders since 1970 that have formulated national policies that have gone awry.

If Malaysia today is divided and disorientated and hardly getting anywhere, it is because of the foolish and foolhardy ploys of UMNO leaders that have caused and created the mess the nation is currently sinking into like quicksand.

UMNO must look to change

Transformation, real transformation and change are the way out for Malaysians. UMNO must understand and think not along racial or even national lines but along global principles as this is the era of globalization.

By being parochial and thinking along Malay ways only there is that grave and real danger that the nation will sink further into the quagmire and end up as a failed state or rogue nation. The signs and symptoms that Malaysia is suffering from the malaise and malady of being a devastated nation are already apparent now.

This is why it is high time for UMNO leaders to get back to their senses and put the interests of the nation above their self-seeking ways. There is that pressing need for UMNO leaders to change tack instead of harping on the same themes like a broken record.

UMNO as the so-called champion of the Malay struggle must wake up to the real situation in this country and go to the ground level to serve and address the needs of the people. This is what countries that are successful and happy have done though they are multi-cultural they have managed to get into the groove of globalization by facing up to the realities of life in today’s world.

Meanwhile UMNO leaders hold sway on this nation with their foggy ideas of their own and threaten and intimidate and frighten the Malays into thinking that the non-Malays are their common enemy. This is unnecessary, mischievous intent that is really motivated to get them to have a vice-like grip of the Malay vote that they might stay in power rather than share power with non-Malays.

UMNO leaders must not for a moment think that their real agenda is not known to the Malays and other races. The reason is simple. Their “sandiwaras” have been running even longer than most Broadway plays and this is why Malaysians have got wind of their intent and motives.

The agenda of UMNO leaders is simple – to make use of Malays to cling on to being the greater power in this country. But the results of the 13th GE, if it is to be analyzed fairly and accurately, shows a paradigm shift by Malaysian voters in favor of egalitarian values.

Malays have come to know and recognize and see through the ploys of UMNO and its leaders that they are not really serious or sincere but self-seeking and suffering from avarice and greed that knows no bounds.

This is the real dilemma that Malays suffer the fact that their welfare and well-being is being used as a pretext and excuse by UMNO and its leaders to cling on to power and to enrich self and promote elitism.

This is what has emerged as the real Malay dilemma.

The options for Malays

While the option for Malays might be to seek redress in the alternative front of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) there are certain drawbacks as shown in the run-up and post 13th GE. PR is not only a viable option for Malays but for the Chinese and Indian community as well.

The drawbacks for Malaysians in relying and putting their trust in PR is that they are a disjointed side with disagreements that have not caused them to come together but to emerge splintered.

This is why while a sizeable portion of voters, especially in East Malaysia, see PR as a viable alternative the attractiveness is diminished by the fact that the opposition coalition suffers from disunity.

This is the only reason why BN and UMNO are still in power. But If PR is able to be united and to be in consensus this will pave the way for Malaysians to opt for them as the political force of the future. But the fact is the rift within the three parties within PR is quite serious.

This definitely does put the future of Malaysians in limbo as to their political direction and leadership. They appear to be caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.

The Malays in particular are the real community that is suffering from the backlash between BN and PR like the Malay proverb: “Gajah sama gajah berjuang, pelanduk mati ditengah-tengah” (The elephant fights with the elephant but it is the deer that is caught in between that dies)

Ever since the emergence of PR as a formidable political force, the nation of Malaysia has been in a state of flux as there is a pull by BN and a push by PR at the same time. This has caused no real growth and instead what has transpired is that the nation has stagnated.

Malays hold the key by being in the majority

It is really the Malays by virtue of being the largest group by race that have the strength in numbers to really call the shots. But unfortunately so far they have failed to use their pulling power to vote and to choose and decide for themselves the people that will be able to move them forward.

This is the reason for Malaysia going around in circles and not moving forward in this New Millennium. Malays have to be brave and honest and truthful in wanting to advance and prosper in life and the only way they can do so is to subscribe fully to the tenets and obligations of democracy.

Only by calling a spade a spade and by playing to the rules of the game can the Malays and other races in this country cause Malaysia to move forward and become a Great Nation. The way forward is to shun evil politics and the politics of deceit and go by those who uphold integrity and honesty.

This is the only way Malaysia can drag itself out of the throes of being a failed state. It is really up to the Malays and they hold the key to decide if Malaysia succeeds or fails. It is therefore advisable for them to think rationally, with their heads on their shoulders, and learn to move forward with the other races or face doom.

Najib must respond to US spy claim

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s silence over allegations that the United States is spying on Malaysians is “appalling” given the gravity of the accusation, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said today.

“No country, not even the US itself, would condone or tolerate a spying agency within its shores,” the PKR de facto leader told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby today.

“Spain, two days back, called the US ambassador to lodge a strong protest. The Brazilian president cancelled his trip to the US and his appointment with Barack Obama because of this exposure.”

In contrast, he pointed out, both Najib and the minister of foreign affairs, Anifah Aman, had said and done nothing to convey their condemnation over US’ covert surveillance on Malaysia.

“I am appalled by the meekness of the BN leadership. The prime minister and foreign minister have been unable to respond to a major spying operation by a foreign country.”

He said Malaysia should demand full explanation from the US, or lodge a very strong protest otherwise.

Two days ago, documents leaked by intelligence whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed that the US was tapping into telephones and monitoring communication networks in Malaysia through its Kuala Lumpur embassy.

A map dated Aug 13, 2010, and published by German magazine Der Spiegel showed that the US ran 90 such facilities worldwide, including China, Jakarta, Bangkok, Phnom Peng and Yangon.

But surveillance facilities are located in the US embassies of the country’s closest allies – Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Japan and Singapore.

Home Affairs Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told reporters yesterday that the government will study whether the US was truly spying on Malaysians here.

“We are aware this is a sensitive issue and [the home ministry] will work together with Wisma Putra to determine if the spying is taking place,” he said when met at the Parliament lobby.

“If there are such activities, we shall leave it to Wisma Putra to take action.

AKITO...AKITO...pity on you. U have lots to learn from the past. It's PERIKATA/BN GOVT that built the nation from day one, before and after independence...PKR opposed the construction of Putrajaya but they are the greedy ones wanting to take over Putrajaya. See what happened to Penang? U agree right it's the racist DAP govt that almost ousted the Malays on the island, wanting to be like Singapore. They raised property prices to exorbitant prices making it unaffordable for the Malays to own property in Penang. Y? They only want the DAP members to control and stay in Penang. Who are the DAP supporters??? Chinese. The 1969 tradegy revealed that it's the DAP that created the riots. Now they want to run Putrajaya so that they can place all the extremist Chinese in every corner of the nation...like a communist state..

Singapore News Site Hacked After ‘Anonymous’ Warns of Attacks

A group called Anonymous hacked a website owned by Singapore’s biggest newspaper publisher, having warned earlier it will mount cyber attacks on the government over its online media licensing framework.

A hacker in the group that goes by the name the Messiah posted on Singapore Press Holdings Ltd. (SPH)’s Straits Times website, saying the newspaper distorted its words by writing that Anonymous is at war with Singapore instead of the government. A video uploaded on the YouTube website this week showed a person in a Guy Fawkes mask demanding Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s government reconsider its Internet regulations.

Singapore from June 1 required websites that regularly publish news on the city state to be licensed and pay a S$50,000 ($40,200) bond, to be forfeited on the publication of “prohibited content” that “undermines racial or religious harmony.” Yahoo! Inc.’s Singapore news website was among an initial list of 10 that was subject to the rules, which the government said would mean news sites are regulated in the same manner as other media.

“We demand you reconsider the regulations of your framework or we will be forced to go to war with you,” according to a computer-generated voice on the YouTube video. “For every time you deprive a citizen his right to information, we will cost you financial loss by aggressive cyber intrusion.”

Singapore’s government agencies were put on alert, the Straits Times reported today. The group’s the Messiah also claimed responsibility for hacking the website of the Ang Mo Kio Town Council this week, the municipal body of Lee’s constituency.

Singapore Press Holdings has taken affected blogs off the Straits Times website after a section of the site was hacked earlier today, the company said in an e-mailed statement. A police report had been made, the company said.

Anonymous has sent similar YouTube messages to governments including the Philippines and the U.K.
