BAT was a good stock but badly affected by illicit smuggling activities due to big price differentials. Although the correct way forward, Government’s recent ban on smoking in eateries (stricter enforcement and higher penalties from 2020 onwards) and continuous health awareness campaigns is very negative for BAT. In light of the weak economy, is unlikely for Government to reduce excise tax rate but can help BAT tremendously if they implement stricter enforcement policies to deter smuggling. At this juncture, elevated earning uncertainties does not augur well on future dividends.

Cig business is no longer growing business. Think of 10 years ago, there's no vape, not much illegal cig, the revenue for BAT grow yoy. If BAT does not come out with sustainable strategic to beat all its substitutes, this business will goes sunset.

Government must reduce sin tax. Government should not be the nanny for the people. Those who wish to smoke and get intoxicated let them be. Ultimately they will pay the price with their health or ,life itself. It is an alternative way of reducing unwanted elements in society.

By reducing tax to pre independence days, government can enjoy more revenue and more sponsors
