Beijing is taking steps to address the increasing detentions of business executives by local authorities, which have raised concerns among companies and investors. In 2024, over 80 executives from listed firms were detained, prompting the central government to implement measures aimed at curbing these "shakedown" practices. The China Securities Regulatory Commission now requires companies to disclose any detentions of key executives, reflecting a push for greater transparency and protection for business leaders。

Distinct from The Alliance, the new arrangement will see Nissan and Honda merge under a new, as-yet unnamed holding group. The deal is tipped to be finalised by August 2026 and the new company will be listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE).
Mitsubishi’s involvement in the new company will be decided by January 2025.
This is a response to Nissan’s current position, with the company battling sales declines, shrinking profits and huge debts. Specifically, China is the main target, with Nissan’s sales in the country down 50 per cent last fiscal year. New, electrified and ‘software-defined’ products are desperately needed.
Banding together won’t see Nissan and Honda outsell Toyota, which delivered over 11 million vehicles last year. Still, with Honda’s 3.8 million unit and Nissan’s 3.4 million unit projections, the pair will be close. Add Mitsubishi’s circa-900,000 sales and that’s over 8.0 million.

KUALA LUMPUR: Khazanah Research Institute (KRI) is challenging Malaysia's household classification, arguing that only the top 30 per cent of households are truly middle-income or aspirational.

KRI's findings contrast with the government's view that the top 60 per cent, made up of Middle 40 (M40) and Top 20 (T20) groups, are middle class.

Malaysia has consistently followed the World Bank's demarcation of Bottom 40 (B40)/M40/T20 from the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP) to the Eleventh Malaysia Plan (11MP) for almost 15 years from 2006-2020.

"Our findings challenge the existing B40, M40 and T20 classification that reveals discrepancies between income demarcations and actual expenditure patterns," it said in a report entitled "Searching for the 'Poor' and the 'Middle-Class' in Malaysia" released today.

Tesla aside, Chinese cars are technologically superior because the Chinese government systematically worked for them to be. As an industrial strategy for high-tech manufacturing, Made in China 2025 and the Five-Year Plan for 2021-25 have been highly successful. The Chinese state financially supports not just domestic EV firms but all parts of the supply chain from metal mining and processing to battery production. In comparison, European political efforts were financially paltry and much more fragmented, leaving its manufacturers dependent on Chinese-dominated supply chains. Escaping this dependency is extremely difficult, not least since China’s 2020 Dual Circulation strategy was in part a project to entrench permanently Chinese firms into the high-value parts of supply chains and force foreign reliance on them. These companies also benefit from the Chinese state prioritising energy security and price over any political preference for one energy source over another substitutable for it. With coal still providing around 60% of China’s electricity and constituting more than 50% of the country’s overall energy consumption, China’s industrial energy costs are significantly lower than those in Europe, most of which is much more dependent on natural gas.

More than a coherent economic strategy to advance the existing European car industry, the tariffs on Chinese manufacturers provisionally imposed by the European Commission in July 2024, and made permanent in October, are a desperate political response to the crisis. When, in May 2024, the Biden administration placed 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs entering the American market, Chinese manufacturers had barely any EV market share and no Chinese EV manufacturer has an operational plant for exports in either Mexico or Canada to access the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. The EU, by contrast, is already China’s largest export market, while BYD will begin producing EVs in Hungary in the second half of 2025 and Turkey — equivalent to the EU’s Single Market for export purposes via the country’s long-standing customs union with the EU — by the end of 2026.

BEIJING (SCMP): A Sichuan hotpot restaurant has been punished by the local government for creating “saliva oil” by recycling the leftover chilli oil soups of diners and mixing the brew with new oil to serve the next customers.

The Nanchong Market Regulation Administration, in southwestern China’s Sichuan province, reported on December 2 that it busted a hotpot restaurant that recycled leftover “old oil” and added it into its hotpot soup base.

The government conducted an investigation on the restaurant after receiving a tip-off from a diner.

They seized 11.54 kilos of recycled beef tallow, a chief ingredient of Sichuan and Chongqing spicy hotpot, in the restaurant’s kitchen.

They also examined four pots of ready-made soups that contained beef tallow that looked different from packaged beef tallow they bought from legitimate companies.

The restaurant’s owner, surnamed Chen, admitted that they had been extracting chilli oil from diners’ leftover soup base since September, and mixing it up with new oil, to “improve the soup’s flavour” and “mend its dismal business”.

The administration confiscated all the recycled oil, and transferred the case to the local police department for further investigation.

First time, every nation including Britain, US etc copied other countries inventions. After that China will invent new technologies when she masters the world technology.
The MOST IMPORTANT THING IS DO YOU HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO COPY AND LATER MAKE YOUR OWN INVENTION???

The head of the North American Aerospace Defence Command says Chinese and Russian air co-operation in the Arctic has Norad's "full attention."
Those two countries for the first time staged a joint patrol in the Arctic near the coast of Alaska last July.
U.S. Gen. Gregory Guillot told The Canadian Press in a year interview that it potentially takes decades for two nations’ militaries to reach "full integration" at a level like the U.S. and Canada.
"We see it right now as co-ordinated, meaning that they can safely operate in the same area (but) not near the level of integration that the Canadian Forces and the U.S. Forces have," he said. "As they continue to operate up there more, it certainly has our attention and it’s something we watched very closely."
Norad’s strategic competitors — Russia, China, North Korea and Iran — have had an "unprecedented level of transactional coordination back and forth between them really for the first time," he noted.

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has granted Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir leave to challenge notices issued by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) over additional tax arrears exceeding RM5.02mil.

Justice Amarjeet Singh said there are issues that need to be addressed in the judicial review application.

The judge also allowed Mukhriz's request to stay the payment of the tax arrears until the April 16 hearing date.

Lawyer Nizamuddin Abdul Hamid represented Mukhriz, while Senior Federal Counsel Wan Shahida Wan Omar appeared for the respondents.

In his application, Mukhriz named the LHDN director-general or CEO, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and the government as the first, second, and third respondents respectively.

He seeks a court order to quash the first respondent's additional tax assessment notice for 2017, 2018, and 2019, amounting to RM5,020,707.18, on the grounds that the action was illegal and unreasonable.

China’s Tiangong space station research aims to ‘break technology choke points’
Thousands of experiments to be conducted over the next 10-15 years intended to serve the country’s crewed exploration programme

China aims to break space technology choke points with thousands of experiments on the Tiangong space station over the next decade or so as it expands its crewed exploration programme.

The China Manned Space Agency outlined the target on Monday in its first performance review of the Tiangong, adding that 181 experiments and application projects had been conducted, and nearly 2 tonnes of scientific materials delivered, as of December 1.

“We aim to achieve major breakthroughs in important areas at the basic frontier of international science and achieve systematic knowledge … in applied fundamentals and new technologies,” it said.

“As a national space laboratory, China’s space station will carry out thousands of research projects over the next 10-15 years of operation.”

According to the report, research will focus on meeting demand for near-Earth and cislunar space – which lies between our planet and the moon’s orbit – as well as deep space exploration and orbital services

China has achieved a breakthrough in satellite-to-ground laser communications that could pave the way for 6G and other applications including remote sensing with ultra-high resolution and next generation satellite positioning technology.

Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co, which owns Jilin-1, the world’s largest sub-metre commercial remote sensing satellite constellation, said it achieved a 100 gigabit per second ultra-high-speed image data transmission rate in testing last weekend.

The feat – 10 times the speed of its previous record – was accomplished between a truck-mounted ground station and one of the 117 satellites that currently make up the Jilin-1 constellation, the company said.

According to Wang Hanghang, the company’s head of laser communication ground station technology, the development puts Chang Guang Satellite ahead of Elon Musk’s Starlink.

“Musk’s Starlink has revealed its laser inter-satellite communication system but hasn’t deployed laser satellite-to-ground communication yet. We think they might have the technology, but we’ve already started large-scale deployment,” he said.

“We plan to deploy these laser communication units across all satellites in the Jilin-1 constellation to improve their efficiency, with a goal of networking 300 satellites by 2027.”

Wang added that the breakthrough “lays the foundation for the deployment and efficient operation of China’s satellite infrastructure, including navigation, 6G internet, and remote sensing applications”.
