Bruce, If you ask me yes with the raise in interest rate , it will definitely effect gold But bear in mind please read Gold Newsletter. They did say about the price would not stay high long but on a long term with the fundamentals and also the world current economic situation, the best things is to hold on to Gold. As I said earlier the super rich guy Rob Ewen says that he will definitely buy more gold as he felt that our world economy is very shakey. George Soros too has been selling off most of his holding in other counters and moved on to Gold stocks. Just imagine if the world economy collapse, those who have Gold will be in a very strong position. This is my guess and the risk individual has to take their own responsibilty. If youre scare just imagine counter like Aviation. One slight accident or raise in oil prices , the counter will drop like rollercoaster,Same goes with oil stocks. What has happened to stocks like Kencana etc. But if you think about counter like POS, now with the advance technology , people uses internet etc paperless why do we still have postman bringing us letters and less people uses the postal services and yet it went up. It all boils to the management's future direction that matters. PETRONAS has been a superb company, but they cannot foresee that the oil prices will be this low. And if you have been hearing oil prices will go up since oil pricing countries is trying to stop production to stavlised their stocks , to me its all not right. Who will be halting their production at the expense of their workers and economy. NOBODY. So it will stay at the current level for a very long time. hahah Too long yer

Bruce, sometime we need to take other ppl comment or forecast with a pinch of salt, whether it is on your side or opposite of yours, no one can 100% accurately predict future trend ;)
Anyway, to answer your question, I Personally think that gold will be a good hedging for this upcoming crisis. All central banks are printing money crazily. China are reducing their USD reserve n increase their gold reserve, Russia also did that.

If China property bubble collapse(,not sure will happen or not, China is special economy system), what do u think the ordinary ppl will do to protect their wealth? I think lot of them will change their money to physical Gold n keep at home! Remember in China u cannot simply change your money to oversea currency, there is limitation...
