KUALA LUMPUR: Felcra Bhd achieved a significant increase of nearly RM82 million in its Interim 2 Distributable Profit this year, marking a 168 percent rise from the same period last year and highlighting the company's dedication to innovative plantation practices.

Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang attributed this success to ongoing innovations that have allowed Felcra to convert former swamps and wildlife areas into productive agricommodity crops.

Rubiah cited Felcra Seberang Perak as a model of rural transformation, with developments including seed processing factories and well-established settlements for farmers.

"This success is proof that with determination and collaboration, progress is not just a dream but a tangible reality," she said during the Felcra Visionary Award 2024 ceremony at the World Trade Centre (WTC) here last night.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the Interim 2 Distributable Profit for 2024, totaling RM129.81 million, will be paid in phases, benefiting nearly 68,000 participants nationwide.

To enhance Felcra's plantation operations, Rubiah encouraged the adoption of modern technologies such as drones, IoT, and AI to boost crop yields and improve efficiency.

She also emphasised the importance of skill development and training for farmers, noting that, according to a United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation report, agricultural productivity can increase by up to 20 percent through skill enhancement.

"We must also ensure that women are empowered within the agricultural sector to drive both yield improvement and positive social change," she added.

Meanwhile, Felcra Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub announced plans for the company to expand its strategic role by integrating commercial and social mandates. These initiatives include developing agropreneurs among Felcra participants and promoting rural and eco-tourism.
