KUALA LUMPUR (June 19): Felcra Bhd has so far implemented four mega indoor broiler chicken farms throughout the country to cater to domestic demand.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also rural and regional development minister, said the projects were at Tanjung Seratus, Kuala Rompin (300,000 birds/cycle); Sungai Damak, Lipis, Pahang (250,000 birds/cycle); Padang Terap, Kedah (250,000 birds/cycle) and Paloh 4, Gua Musang, Kelantan (250,000 birds/cycle).

He added that the projects had the potential of changing the landscape of small towns or rural areas, turning them into an environment of quality.

“This initiative will benefit participants by allowing them to build careers and generate income, as well as fill job vacancies.

“It will also generate various local economic activities, including service and maintenance, landscape work, construction and contractual work,” he posted on his Facebook page on Monday (June 19).

Ahmad Zahid also said that the projects were part of the government’s continuous efforts to boost the people’s standard of living through the Felcra Transformation Plan 2.0 and to strengthen the national economy.

He stressed that the food security issue was an important element to government’s efforts to ensure that the food supply chain in the country was resilient and could ensure the survival of Malaysians.

The mega indoor broiler chicken farm project is under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and aims to boost the supply of chicken in the domestic market and to provide jobs to Felcra participants.
