KOBAY (6971): Kickstarting Growth, but share price Kaput

Effulgence
Publish date: Fri, 16 Sep 2022, 01:50 PM

KOBAY (6971) is a Main Market company in the Industrial Products & Services segment.

KOBAY's business is mainly in Manufacturing (90%) and Property. Manufacturing involves high precision engineering, components and high-level assembly with CNC machining, sheet metal stamping, precision tooling, etc. (highly convoluted technical terms)

KOBAY had a meteoric rise from 2020 to 2021.

Is KOBAY selling at cheap price now?

1. Share price you pay now is higher than Price to Book.

KOBAY's share price is RM 2.80, whilst its net assets is about RM 1.08.

2. Best performance in FY2022.

KOBAY's revenue hit all-time high in 2022, net profit hit all-time high in 2022, yet share price all-time high was in Nov 2021 around RM6.50. Since FY2013, KOBAY achieved consecutive revenue per year increase, except 2020.

3. Financial Statements.

KOBAY had positive net cash from operations in most of recentmost 20 quarters. It is usually a net cash company. KOBAY usually gives dividends, but does not have unbroken consecutive years streak.

4. Insider dealings.

27.6.2022 Director Koay Cheng Lye acquired indirectly 6.4mil. shares via Inna Capital.

30.11.2021 Director(s) Koay Cheng Lye, Koay Ah Bah@Koay Cheng Hock, Dato Seri Koay Hean Eng acquired 2.75mil. shares indirectly via Kobay Holdings Sdn. Bhd. at RM6.20 per share.

Hard to tell whether insiders think the company is undervalued.

5. PE ratio is around 17.

KOBAY's trailing PE ratio is neither high nor low now. It is higher than its previous years' PE, around 10. However its strong growth might justify the increase, should its growth trajectory grows.

I don't have shares in KOBAY. Suppose KOBAY produces an average net profit to shareholders of 14mil./quarter, given PE ratio of 15, KOBAY should be worth RM2.58. Averaging net profit to shareholders over the past 20 quarters, (6.7mil/quarter) with PE ratio of 15, KOBAY would only be worth RM 1.23.
