Last week at the 2020 CES conference in Las Vegas, Asics introduced to the world a prototype - currently unnamed - of its first smart shoe.

Last week at CES, Asics revealed a prototype of what will eventually be the first member of a complete range of smart shoes. The currently unnamed sneakers, created in partnership with Japanese start-up No New Folk Studio Inc, are equipped with intelligent technologies designed to analyse a runner's performance.

This data collection is made possible thanks to an embedded No New Folk Studio's Orphe Track sensor. Based on various physical signals, like kick strength and stability, real-time metrics about the run are viewable by the wearer via a complementary mobile app.

The working prototype presented at the conference was a pair of Asic's Evoride running shoes with the Orphe Track sensor embedded inside them. According to the company, the final production version of Asics's first ever smart shoes will not be Evoride shoes - they were just simply used for the demonstration.

While this partnership will result in a first for Asics, No New Folk Studio's sensors have already been implemented in shoes currently on the market in Japan for about US$272 .

As of right now, Asics is planning to launch Orphe Track-equipped running shoes sometime this year.
