KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is confident that the Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ) will be the new hub of the digital economy, with more Malaysians, both in the rural and urban areas benefiting from it.
He said the DFTZ could definitely learn from China’s e-trade and Alibaba Group’s achievements, adding, it saw the future and was fast in embracing the new way to trade in this 21st century.
“I am impressed with Alibaba's achievements. In just 13 years, the company’s transactions have reached three trillion yuan or close to RM1.9 trillion.
“During the Global Shopping Festival last year, Alibaba processed a peak of 175,000 orders per second,” he said in a post on Facebook and Twitter today.
Najib made a brief stopover at Hangzhou today to obtain an insight into the operations of the Alibaba Group.
He also witnessed today the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the Hangzhou Municipal Government and the Alibaba Group.
The MoU is among the efforts being undertaken by Malaysia to implement the Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ) project recently launched by Najib and Alibaba Group Executive Chairman Jack Ma, who is also Digital Economy advisor to the Malaysian government.
“With the DFTZ, the ecosystem of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurship will change and be more inclusive. Expect to see an increase in the value chain and 60,000 new jobs,” Najib said.
The DFTZ is aimed at spurring Malaysia’s economic growth by providing cross-border e-trade facilities for small and medium companies, which in the past, found it difficult to penetrate the international market.
It will among others, provide an area at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Aeropolis for logistics facilities and storage, and efficiently expedite customs and financing procedures. — Bernama

How OPCOM will be gain the benifit from DFTZ??
Answer:
Digital Free Trade Zone derives its business through buying and selling through Computer, Laptop or iphone.
As such more and more people will be encouraged to use the internet and iphone. Resulting in Govt setting up more and more HSSB (High speed Broad Band) Services to the higest peak of Gunong Tahan, the southern most tip of Peninsula Malaysia & even to the interior Kapit of Sarawak.
How much more FIBER OPTIC Cables will be needed?
Last time I called for a buy on Prestar at 46 sen because 8 highways need lots of guardrails from Prestar. Prestar now up by over 100%
So expect OPCOM to do very very well

Note:
For electricity transmission of TNB you need copper wires
For water you need water pipes
For internet transmission you need Fiber Optic cables

Calvintan, Chinese company will buy their own country (China) factory produce fibre optic. If Wanda get the contract for Bdr Msia, do u think they want to buy fibre optic from 0pcom. I don't think so unless it is stated in the contract that Chinese developer must buy materials from Msian local company. That is my 2 cents opinion only.

Haha, who do you think is going to benefit? TonyF just signed an MOU to set up AA China. Better buy AA before it is too late

...........................................
pussycats →calvintaneng, what I mean is Chinese master developer buying fiber optic cable from mainland China not from Opcom. Installation of fibre optic cable maybe done by local Malaysian. So 0pcom will not benefit from Bdr Msia proj. My humble opinion.
