BEIJING, May 24 — The United States is pushing relations with China to “the brink of a new Cold War”, the Chinese foreign minister said today, with tensions soaring over coronavirus, Hong Kong’s status and other issues.

“It has come to our attention that some political forces in the US are taking China-US relations hostage and pushing our two countries to the brink of a new Cold War,” foreign minister Wang Yi told reporters.

Longstanding friction between the two powers over trade, human rights and other issues have been pushed to new heights since the Covid-19 outbreak.

Wang did not identify what “forces” he was referring to, but US President Donald Trump has led world criticism of China’s initial response to the pandemic, which has caused more than 330,000 deaths and economic carnage worldwide.

The introduction in China’s legislature on Friday of a proposal to impose a security law in Hong Kong to suppress the semi-autonomous city’s pro-democracy movement has further raised the temperature, drawing US and world condemnation.

But Wang hit back at Washington, accusing it of seeking to repeatedly “attack and smear” China.

“Aside from the devastation caused by the novel coronavirus, there is also a political virus spreading through the US,” Wang said at a press conference on the side of the annual legislative meeting.

“This political virus is the use of every opportunity to attack and smear China. Some politicians completely disregard basic facts and have fabricated too many lies targeting China, and plotted too many conspiracies.”

Cold War is small matter. What people worry is hot war. It’s very difficult for US government to comfort their citizen as coronavirus dead keeps running up. They won’t put the entire blame to Trump but diverting it to CCP. US is leading the world to this direction and making a huge compensation. US would take this opportunity to.......Hard to escape this time.

US is not kidding with CCP anymore. They are preparing for this by putting into actions. CCP don’t even dare to make noise when Navy P-8 With Secretive Radar Pod Surveils Massive Chinese Naval Base In South China Sea.

US 1 trillions bond....is it enough to cover economy losses and more than 100k dead in US? Are you expecting top 20 countries governments to tell their own folks that it was all their own government fault or mistakes for not taking prober actions in combating coronavirus, and therefore, the loss of economy due to lockdown is unavoidable and must be born by their own folks?
No country dare to make a compensation from China except US. US is now leading all of them to make the claims. Can CCP simply get away by saying that the virus come from US?

China at best can afford a mini cold war with US. If actual war happen, US can use
its Navy dominant strength to simply seal off all China coastal ports, stop all merchant ship in the coastal seas. Then, China economy immediately will collapse.
