MEXICO CITY - Mexico's electoral authority on Friday confirmed that ruling party Morena and its allies will hold a two-thirds supermajority in the lower house when session kicks off in September, after an extended debate over the distribution of the seats.

Electoral authority INE ruled that in the lower house, Morena and its allies secured 364 seats, comfortably exceeding the two-thirds majority of 334 votes needed to amend the constitution without the need to reach consensus with the opposition.

The formal ratification of the June 2 election results comes after opposition parties complained that the ruling coalition should have fewer seats based on an interpretation of the electoral system prioritizing representation by party rather than coalition.
