Mahathir said the 1MDB scandal, which is being investigated by the U.S and several other countries for cross-border embezzlement and money laundering, has blackened Malaysia’s international reputation.

The opposition will reopen investigations into 1MDB if it wins the election, he said, but denied they would be targeted at Najib.

“If it reaches the court, the court will decide, we are not going to decide,” Mahathir said. “It is not a question of revenge. We are not going to take revenge on him, but the law must be respected.”

The U.S. Justice Department says at least $4.5 billion was stolen from 1MDB by associates of Najib and is working to seize $1.7 billion allegedly taken from the fund to buy assets in the U.S.

Mahathir said he regretted not putting in place stronger checks on power when he was prime minister.

“I did not know it at the time, of course, but I regret very much that I was not able to foresee the kind of damage that can be done by a prime minister under the existing law.”

Malaysian opposition leader Mahathir Mohamad said that huge rallies indicate some of the ruling coalition’s traditional Malay supporters are now favoring the opposition and a change of government is possible

The above photo was taken yesterday when Lim Guan Eng announced DAP candidates for Perak GE 14.  Although I am not a politician, I was given the honour to stand beside Dato Sri Mohammed Nizar, former MB of Perak, Nga Kor Ming, Perak DAP Chairman, and Lim Guan Eng, CM of Penang. 

Let me tell you how we can easily win control of Perak, my home state.

There are 59 state seats in Perak. In the last GE13 we won 28 seats and we lost control. In the GE12, we won 31 seats but the BN Government bought 3 of our elected members and we lost control again.

But this time is different. Dr Mahathir has formed a political party called Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) which will be contesting for 15 seats in Perak. In fact, I suggested to Dr Mahathir to contest in one of the 15 state seats allocated to his party. Assuming that the old coalition parties will win 28 seats, I am very sure PPBM will win more than 3 seats to win control of Perak.

Many of the old die-hard UMNO members who have now joined PPBM, will now vote for the opposition. As a result, many of the seats which we lost by a small margin in the last GE, for example Manjoi, which our candidate Tuan Hj Asmui Alwi, lost by 132 votes, will most likely win this time. 

I am sure wherever there is a 3 parties fight, PAS, UMNO, and PH, Pakatan Harapan will most likely win because many of the Malays will votes for PH.
